TODD BODINE-66-Blue Light Special Taurus (finished 43rd)
"Something in the transmission let go. I believe it was something in the fourth gear, shifting from third to fourth down the straightaway. I was running in the fourth position, it just didn't go in and parts and pieces were rattling around in there. I told Larry that it wasn't going to be long before I gave up. It would go in third gear and stay in third, and that's what I was running in and finally it started popping out of third gear and just couldn't go anymore. I couldn't even hold it in third gear. It's a shame. This Kmart Blue Light Special was running good. We dropped back there a little bit there, trying to just bide our time and make sure the transmission was going to make it. We had a good race car, it's a shame we're back here in the garage."
DALE JARRETT-88-UPS Taurus (finished 41st)
"I can't tell you what happened. Somebody got sideways in front of me. It's just one of those things that happen."
WHAT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME?
"I don't know. I don't know if we had something that cut a tire or what. Just went into turn three and the thing wouldn't turn. Probably what it did was just something that we didn't catch rubbing the tire."
ON THE POINTS RACE AND THE REST OF THE SEASON.
"It doesn't change anything. I mean, we race just like we've been racing, you don't do anything different. You know, when we were tied I said it was a long season, had a lot of races to go. It doesn't matter, we're back, we just got to continue to race to win and that's what we were going to do whether we were leading or whether we were behind."
JEFF BURTON-99-Citgo SUPERGARD Taurus(finished 36th)
"Ward and I were on the outside and somebody in front of Ward and some kind of problem and he got really slow and I didn't get slowed down in time and hit Ward and caused the whole thing. I saw the guy right in front of Ward, but I didn't see him get slowed down that quick. I couldn't slow down in time."
"I'm really sorry for my guys. I messed up. I couldn't get the car slowed down enough. We definitely would've had a solid top-10 finish. We ran some awesome lap times today and the pit stops were great. Our efforts are continuing to get better. We'll keep digging and hope for a good run in Indy. Our guys did great in getting me back out."
RICKY RUDD-28-Texaco/Havoline Taurus(finished 11th)
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT LAST CAUTION?
"We had a foul-up on the gas stop, something went wrong, we lost track position, race was over."
WHAT ABOUT BEFORE THAT?
"We were good. We were a second-place car, we couldn't beat Gordon, but a second-place car and, like I said, we just got hemmed in with that re-start because we had a mistake on pit road, something happened."
ON THE POINTS RACE NOW.
"I guess in the big picture we're okay. A little disappointed in having a car that, you know, it was a second-place car and we finished 11th. That's a little disappointing, but the big picture, I guess, we didn't take too big of a beating today."
RICKY CRAVEN-32-Tide Taurus (finished 10th)
"We just battled all day. We were somewhere between 15th and 20th most of the day, and the car ran the very best at the end, I mean, just perfect. The only thing that prevented us from a top-five was track position. I'm pretty proud of the team. It was a great effort. We needed a top-10, now we can try to put a string of them together."
YOU GOT BETTER AS THE DAY WENT ON; OTHER TEAMS HAD TROUBLE LATER ON.
"Yeah, this is a tough race track. If you get car that handles well and you get a good engine, and I do, you can really make up a lot of ground. The car ran the best at the end of the day. That's what you hope for, right? I think the last 25 laps we were as good as anybody, but we re-started like 23rd and we drove to 10th."
RUSTY WALLACE-2-Miller Lite Taurus (finished sixth)
"It was really tight at the beginning until we got the spring rubber out of the rear spring. Then it really loosened up. We just kept on tweaking the thing with track-bar and air-pressure adjustments and the thing started coming to life during the second half of the race. Robin said the lap times were equal to the top five guys. We got better and better. The guys had killer pit stops all day and that really helped out. Man, I missed that big crash by about a quarter of an inch. We got into the back of the 20 car when the caution came out with about 40 to go and that had us concerned. We just hung in there and kept digging and digging and all that paid off at the end for us."
JIMMY SPENCER-26-Kmart Taurus (finished 12th)
"We finished 12th, that's better than 13th."
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR RACE TODAY?
"Not that good."
IS THAT BECAUSE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS TEAM ARE HIGHER?
"I think so, in the top-10s, you know. We just never ran good yesterday and never ran good both practices, and never really ran good today. Good track position was all we had. We were just lucky we got our lap back there that one time. Our car, after 10 or 15 laps it would go to junk, and just kept sliding the tires all around the race track."
ROBERT PRESSLEY-77-Jasper Engines & Transmissions Taurus (finished ninth)
"Pocono's always got a lot of tight racing and everybody was just grabbing on to each other because track position means so much."
WHAT ABOUT YOUR DAY?
"It was good. We started real good, and in the middle we got a little bit too tight. Got the car freed up there in the middle of the race and I thought we were pretty decent. Those last four or five laps we got pretty tight, though."
TWO DAYS AGO YOU SAID YOU COULDN'T GET HE CAR TRAINED TO TURN LEFT. WHAT
THAPPENED IN THE LAST 48 HOURS?
"We still ain't got it turning left, it's just sliding the nose across. We're not the only ones having that trouble, I guess, the ones up front slid the nose the least."
CAN YOU TAKE SOME OF THIS MOMENTUM TO INDIANAPOLIS?
"Oh, yeah. We're on momentum, we're carrying it every week, so we're looking forward to Indy."
ELLIOTT SADLER-21-Motorcraft Taurus (finished 26th)
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE RACE?
"I don't know. I think it was that automatic shut-off device thing. That's two weeks in a row that thing's cut off on me. It made me hit the wall in New Hampshire and then cost us a lot of points here today, too. I know it's a safety device, but that's two weeks in a row it's killed us, so we're going try to do something different about it."
DID THE CAR GET ANY BETTER WITH THE ADJUSTMENTS?
"No. We were off all day. We gotta start doing something different or different something when we come here. We're just not happy with our performance here today. We'll try to get it better next time."
