DAVE BLANEY, No. 66 Toyota Camry, PRISM Motorsports
Are you surprised with your qualifying performance? "I was pretty surprised. I thought we could run -- we had run 40.0 (seconds) in practice and the track is a half-second faster -- so I thought we could run a .50 or .60. We ran a .30 something, which is more than I thought. It's all good."
How much practice did you get today? "We made at least four or five runs. We had a normal amount of practice." How difficult is it trying to make these races?
"All we have is four guys, and we lost one this week -- so we're down to three. Our stuff is good -- we just don't have much -- but the stuff we got is really good. So, you should be able to rip one off once in a while. We have year-old Waltrip cars and Pro- Motors for the engines -- and that was a nice run for them here."
KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Were you pleased with your qualifying run? "It was not bad. It's a lap, but we wish we were a little faster, as always. We've been fighting tight. We've been fighting loose. We've been all over the board. So, we're just trying to get a balance and a get a better race car built up for the race Sunday."
DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael
How was your car in qualifying? "It was okay. We haven't been all that great from the time we unloaded. We're still a little bit tight, but it was a descent lap. It was okay."
What are your expectations for Sunday? "I'm a little on the fence. We have some work to do in our race package. Hopefully, we can work on that. I know the weather isn't supposed to be too good, so hopefully we'll get some practice in tomorrow and see what happens."
Are you happy with your qualifying run? "Absolutely. We had to play it a little bit conservative, obviously, to make it into the show. I can't say enough for everyone on the 82 team. We've definitely picked up the pace from last year. Already this year we have a lot of momentum going from Daytona and hopefully that'll keep going and we'll have a good race on Sunday and keep the ball rolling."
JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
How is your car handling here in Fontana? "My Cup car was good. At the end of practice, I felt like we should have a top-10 qualifying run and I went down in the corner and lost the nose -- got too tight. Don't know what happened there. A lot of things we could blame that on. I feel like I had a good car and it sucks that I'm back where I'm going to be when I feel like I had almost a top-five car. It's kind of disappointing -- but what can you do about it? It's over now. It was good in race trim earlier this morning, so we're going to have to have it good in race trim or it's not going to work."
Was your qualifying run what you expected? "It was not good, but it was the best we've been all day. We've just been way off today -- really, really, really tight -- as tight as I've ever had a car in a long, long time. I'm not sure what it was -- we're doing stuff a little different than we have in the past. It wasn't working and we threw some stuff at it between practice and qualifying, and the car really came around. It was the best the car turned. It got down into the corner through the center really good. But, just no drive off -- it was just really loose off. They probably hurt our time more than anything."
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Freight Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
What happened during your qualifying run? "I just went into turn one way too deep. The car was tight and I probably overdrove it. The FedEx Freight Toyota made some big gains in afternoon practice that we didn't carry into qualifying. We went in optimistic after being on the pole for the last race here. We will work on the car tomorrow -- if the weather holds for us. We will be fine on race day and just work out way through the pack."
MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 47 Armor All Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing
Are you happy with your qualifying? "I'm a bit disappointed with it, really. We were really good in race trim and when we taped off in practice there -- and we just didn't quite hit it. So, we had a big swing at it there. We probably just needed one more run (in practice) to get ready for qualifying. We're probably going to start further back than we wanted to, but we'll work on it." How will you get ready for the race? "We're really going to see what the weather does and just try to get this car comfortable and get it running for the full distance."
MICHAEL McDOWELL, No. 55 Toyota Camry, PRISM Motorsports
JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports
MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip
How was your qualifying run? "It was not good -- not very good at all. The car has been real tight all day and hasn't been turning too well. We did a lot of changes and it just doesn't turn. So, we've got some work to do."
Do you enjoy racing at Fontana? "I've had some good runs here. But, it's never fun when your car is not handling -- so we got some work to do."
