McMurray on racing at Auto Club Speedway:
"I don't know what it is about racing at Fontana, but it's a track that I really enjoy coming to on the circuit. Auto Club Speedway is more of a driver's track where you as the driver can really dictate your times by which line you choose on the race track. Sometimes the high line works better and as the track changes, it could move to the middle or bottom groove, just depending on how your car seems to handle. That's really what makes California a fun track to race on. We've had a lot of momentum the past few weeks at Daytona, even after we fell victim to the wreck in the 500, but our Crown Royal team is ready to get out West and continue where we left off at the end of the 2008 season with another top-5 finish this week."
Crew chief Donnie Wingo on racing at Auto Club Speedway:
"We're hoping to continue on exactly how this team did at the end of last season. We haven't changed much in the ways of set-ups when we were looking ahead to this car for Fontana because the Crown Royal team had everything working right at the end of the 2008 season. The biggest focus at Fontana is that a 500-mile race is definitely tough on the engines. The other challenge is just going from daylight to night time during the race as the sun sets. The handling is still a concern for teams because the track will change as the sun sets and cools off the track, so we'll make sure our car has that adjustability built in for Sunday's race."
In 11 career Sprint Cup starts at the two-mile speedway, McMurray has five top-10 finishes, including three top-five finishes.
McMurray has a career average starting position of 25.0 and an average finishing position of 14.6 at Auto Club Speedway.
Statistically speaking, Fontana is McMurray's second-best track on the Sprint Cup Series circuit when it comes to average finishing position.
