Blaney Looking for Big Day at Big Track
Driver Is Historically Fast at Fontana
Statesville, N.C. (October 5, 2010) - Dave Blaney has a history of being fast in Fontana, and Front Row Motorsports is looking for that trend to continue this weekend. Blaney will drive the No. 37 A&W All American Food Ford at Auto Club Speedway as the Sprint Cup Series heads west to Fontana, Calif. Sunday's Pepsi Max 400 will be his third race this season, and second consecutive, with Front Row. The "Buckeye Bullet" has a strong record in the Cup Series at the two-mile oval, earning starting positions as high as fifth. His best finish at the track is ninth.
Comments from A&W All American Food Ford Team Driver Dave Blaney on Auto Club Speedway and the NASCAR Schedule Change:
"Fontana is a big, big, big, fun racetrack. It's really spread out. And you need a little bit of everything to run good there. You need a good engine, you need to handle well, and track position seems to be big there, too. We qualified fifth there in the spring in the Prism (Motorsports) car, so I'm hoping we can do something similar here and have a good qualifying run and race well.
"I know that Fontana is going to lose one of its races next year. I do like racing there, but you've got to do what's best for the sport, the health of the sport and the health of that track. They have struggled out there with fan support for whatever reason. And I think there are other areas of the country that could maybe get a little more fan support, so that's where we go.
"As a driver, you just want to get in the car and race. We'll go wherever NASCAR takes us. I know it's not really that simple and there's a lot more involved in deciding who gets what and when. But we'll do what's best for the sport and try to put on a good show for the fans wherever we go.
"We closed the gap a little more in the owner points last week at Kansas. We would've liked to close it a little more, but we struggled with the handling a little bit. So we didn't get as much as we could have, but it was still a gain. And that's what this team is working for every week - to get closer and closer to that 35th spot every week. Now we go to Fontana and see if we get even closer."
