Tope-five finishers: Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton and Mark Martin
Race recap: Matt Kenseth won the race off pit road after a late-race caution and held on to capture the victory in Sunday's Nextel Cup race.
Kenseth was the race's dominant driver, leading 133 of 250 laps. He took the lead for the final time on lap 228 and survived a restart and four-lap shootout after the race was red-flagged due to a three-car accident.
Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick was a big loser as a result of that accident. Running in the second position, Harvick ran over some debris and punctured a left-front tire, forcing him to come to the pits and lose his track position.
Mark Martin currently leads the championship standings by five points over Jeff Burton.
The Nextel Cup Series is off this coming weekend, but returns to action at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in two weeks.
Goodyear quote -- Rick Heinrich: "We were very pleased with how well our Eagles and Wranglers performed at California Speedway all weekend. This is the first time we ran this tire setup at this track and the results were great. It also was a good test for this left-side code, which will be used at most of the mile-and-a-half and two-mile tracks we race at this year."
Companion events: Matt Kenseth also won the NASCAR Busch Series race at California on Saturday, while Mike Skinner took home the victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday night. Kenseth led 48 of 150 laps in the Busch race, including the final 22. Skinner benefited from leader Mark Martin getting spun out by another driver on a late-race restart, taking over the top spot one lap later and cruising to the victory.
