JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS -- Comments following second red flag due to rain
"The DuPont Chevrolet is unbelievable. It's about one of the best cars I've ever had. It's really strong on the restarts. Traffic really changes these cars a lot and we're learning those things right now. We're trying to free the car up a little while we're in traffic and just see what happens when we get back out there."
WITH THE RAIN COMING AND GOING, IS IT CHANGING THE TRACK? "We haven't had a chance to really lay rubber down on the race track. I think it's going to change, but it's just got a ton of grip at the beginning each time and the cool temperatures keep a lot of grip in it. Once the rubber gets down it's going to be interesting to see the grooves widen out and see which car and team is the one to beat.
"We lost a little track position, once we get that back, we will be in great shape. These guys have given me one heck of a race car today. We are having fun out there battling with them. I think we have seen the cream really rise up to the top. There are some guys really strong, the Roush cars. Jimmie (Johnson) has really stepped it up. A couple of others too so it is going to be an interesting race once we get it going.
"If we get some long runs, we will all see who is the team that has the car to beat.I would like to see some green flag stops, but, honestly, I am shocked at how good my car is on the short runs. When they drop the green, we can about run her wide open down in one and two. We are in sixth position right now, so we will just work our way through there. The most important thing is to run 500 milesand whatever the length of this race is and get a good solid finish.
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 SHELL-PENNZOIL IMPALA SS:
"Our Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet has been pretty good. We are probably about a 7th or 8th place car right now. But we have to get it a little better.
"Our car has lot a little bit of grip overall, not more one end or another. Kinda both ends, just sliding around. Just have to keep dodging the water puddles, which can be hard to do"
MARK MARTIN, NO. 8 PRINCIPAL FINANCIAL GROUP IMPALA SS:
"This is really a tough deal, we just can't seem to get racing here. The race track isn't taking any rubber, this has been tough.J
"The track is ok, our car just isn't working well. For the guys whose car is working, I am sure it is fine."
CLINT BOWYER, NO. 07 JACK DANIEL'S IMPALA SS:
"We are having some trouble through the corners but we are fast. We will just see what this race brings. We have to continue to get in the corner, can't get around the corner.
"We had a close call on pit road. By the time I got going, I couldn't really lift and I could see him over there but if I wouldhave lifted, he would have driven right in my door. I just tried to get going andget out of the way as quick as I could; it was close.
"I watched the No. 31, he seemed like he could stay up there pretty high and good on the track. Track position is important in these cars as we saw last year. Just trying to get a little track position and hopefully we got it tightened up a little bit and we can get going."
