"Our Auto Club Dodge was pretty good. I was real happy with the car. It was a little tight; we just need to keep tuning on it trying to make it better for the race. I definitely think that we had a top-10 car when I mashed the throttle to make our qualifying lap. A top 10 here in qualifying is a nice step in the right direction for our team. We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole in Daytona with our finish, but I have a lot of confidence in this team and they brought out a fast race car to California."
HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO RUN WELL AT THESE NEXT FEW INTERMEDIATE TRACKS? "The next few races don't make your season, but they're a decent litmus test to understand where your season is going. I think that our intermediate track program is solid. All three of our Penske Dodge's are fast here in California and I'm excited to start up front, get a good pit stall and go race these guys."
KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger) Qualified 12th
"Not a bad lap for our Miller Lite Dodge. We were just a bit tight on exit that scrubbed some time off. I think we unloaded a fast race car and that gives us a lot of confidence. The tricky part may be the weather. We're hoping that the rain stays away long enough that we can get another shot at dialing our car in with race trim. It's all about downforce here. There's not a lot of banking in the corners and it's really important to get the car into the race track and get the nose pointed in the right direction in corner-exit. You have to be able to get the rear end planted into the track and if we can do that and free it up a touch, we'll be fine."
BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 12 AAA Dodge Charger) Qualified 21st
"I think that our AAA Insurance Dodge was pretty decent in qualifying. It's really hard to get a gauge of what to expect because I haven't run in a Cup race here yet. I'm still looking for the feel that I need to go fast. I think that we'll be OK. I think that this is a nice race car; we just need some more time on the track to help me get a better feel for the car. Hopefully, this rain won't come in so that I can go out and make some more laps on the track and get more experience."
WHAT'S THE HARDEST PART FOR YOU LEARNING THIS TRACK AS A CUP DRIVER? "It's really that balance between finding out what the car wants and what I want. Getting a feel for the car is really important. We made some really nice gains in practice earlier today. I not too concerned about picking this track up quickly. We just need to go out and make some more laps in our AAA Insurance Dodge."
