STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
We were so bad on new tires. Once we got to the end of the run we could run as fast as the leaders. If you had a restart and had on 10-lap tires, mycar was terrible. It'd take four or five laps to get all the stuff off thetires. It's just a different tire at a different track. They'll do the same thing at Charlotte and Michigan. This is the first race this year we haven't led a lap, and it was bound to come sometime. We had a terrible car on the start. The guys kept working and adjusting and got it pretty decent. We wanted a top five, but at the start of the race if you'd told me we were going to run ninth, I would have told you you were crazy. It was so tight you couldn't turn it. It would just slide the front end across the track. It would not turn. We gained some points on some guys and lost a few to some others. We didn't go test at Richmond. We didn't go test, but the 01 team tested, so we'll get with them and see what we can come up with. Jason had a good run today, and it was good to see that for him since he's from Long Beach. That team is coming around and getting better and better each week. We got another top 10 today, so we'll just keep plugging along. We've got a lot of racing left, so we're not going to get too excited one way or the otherjust yet."
JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T)
We finished, so that made it a good day. The pit stops were great. The guys did great. I just screwed up there with a couple of lapped cars that weren't giving me any room. I tried to go around them, and I got loose andalmost crashed. I lost about eight spots doing that, but other than that, itwas a good day. We learn something every race. I learned that I've got to be more patient with the lapped cars, and I learned I probably need a little more time around here before I get any respect. A couple of those guys run up front a lot. I'll just return the favor next time when they're lapping me. We had a pretty good car. Sterling (Ganassi teammate Marlin) tuned on his car and got it better and better. We were about equal, but he can work traffic alittle better than I can. He got through traffic. I think our cars were pretty equal, but he just outdrove me a little bit. Every race we're getting better and better and it's great to see that improvement."
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
The car was loose all day. We kept working on it and trying to get itbetter, but we never really got it right. We gambled a little bit there at the end and opted not to pit in favor of track position. That worked out pretty good because we got a decent finish out of it and we really hadn't been running up that high all day."
CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
A line came loose and we started leaking oil. It's really unfortunate because we had a real good day going. It didn't work out for us today, but we learned a lot and we'll try it again next week at Richmond."
BILL DAVIS (Car Owner Bill Davis Racing Dodge Intrepid R/Ts with driversWard Burton and Dave Blaney)
We were just so terribly loose. We had a real fast car all weekend inpractice and expected to run like Jack the Bear, but we were just loose, loose, loose. We got better every stop and got to be a top five car. We got jumbled up over there and lost a bunch of positions and got back to seventh or eighth, but we were gaining it back on some of them. It was going to be adecent day, and I guess that's all you could call it. It was shaping up to be a top 10 (for 22 team) or maybe a top five. We really needed that, but now Ward's best car is gone and they had to helicopter him to the hospital for a CAT scan. They said he was a little disoriented and had a cut on his chin. He took a shot, and he was having a hard time remembering what happened, but hewas talking and alert and they just wanted to check him out and make sure he's OK."
