Carl Edwards on racing at Auto Club Speedway:
"I feel really good going to California on the Sprint Cup side. It's the one I've been waiting for. Daytona is what it is, but California's the first one that we get to see how well we worked over the winter. I just really like the track a lot. I think, of all the tracks, I have my best averages at that track.
"The Auto Club Speedway challenges every part of your crew and every part of your team. You have to have a great aerodynamic package. You have to have a great engine. Your pit crew has to be on it. And for the driver it's a pretty big finesse racetrack, so you get to see how strong the team is by how they run there. We ran well there last year, so hopefully we'll be able to do the same again this week."
Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Auto Club Speedway:
"I can't put my finger on exactly why we typically run well at Fontana. Obviously we have a great driver; we have great equipment and great engines and each play a huge role in our success there. But, as far as there being one-single thing that sets us apart from other teams at California, I don't think so. I think we've been able to address the different challenges that we've been presented and overcome them."
Carl Edwards will make his tenth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, February 22 in the Auto Club 500.
For the record... In nine starts at the 2-mile California track, Edwards has one win, one pole, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes. His average start is 17.8, his average finish is 6.7.
Edwards has completed 2252 of 2255 (99.9%) of laps attempted at the Auto Club Speedway. Of the 2252 laps Edwards has completed, he has led 120 of them.
In the LOOP... According to NASCAR's Loop Statistics compiled over the last eight races at Fontana, Edwards has turned 133 of the track's fastest laps, spent 1565 laps in the top 15 and led a total of 120 laps. Edwards' driver rating is fourth best among active drivers.
Rewind 2008... Edwards drove the No. 99 to Victory Lane at Auto Club Speedway in February of 2008. He started that race ninth and led 64 laps en route to his first of nine wins in 2008.
