FONTANA, Calif., Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 -- The following are Auto Club 500 post-race notes and quotes from Bobby Labonte, driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet:
AUTO CLUB 500 NOTES:
* Labonte rebounded from a 43rd-place finish in the Daytona 500 (engine) to finish 13th in the Auto Club 500.
* This marks the fourth consecutive year that the last-place finisher at the Daytona 500 rebounded to finish 14th or better in the next race. In 2002, Tony Stewart finished fourth, in 2003, Ryan Newman finished 14th and in 2004, Mark Martin finished 12th. All of those races were conducted at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, N.C.
* Labonte moved from 43rd in points to 31st in points with his 13th-place finish. Despite their 43rd-place finish at Daytona, Stewart, Newman and Martin all managed to finish in the top-10 in points at the end of the season. Stewart won the 2002 championship, while Newman finished sixth in 2003 and Martin finished fourth in 2004.
AUTO CLUB 500 QUOTES:
BOBBY LABONTE (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet): "We had a good run. We didn't really have the car to challenge those guys at the end, but we worked hard all day. We'd have liked a top-10 finish, but we're pretty happy with 13th after last week. The guys worked hard all day, and we got the car better and better throughout the day. We were in a hole after Daytona, and we began digging out of it today. We just need to keep getting after it in Las Vegas." (About falling back to 33rd after starting 12th): "The car was really tight in the beginning, but Steve (Addington) and the guys worked real hard on it, made a lot of adjustments, and we had some great pit stops. That helped us get back to the front."
