CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 25, 2000 - Although she may not be a lock for an Oscar, demonstrating a great impression of a NASCAR driver has earned Charlotte's Jennifer Shults a chance to share the spotlight with her favorite Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers - not on the track, not in victory lane, but on the big screen.
Food Lion Speed Street's newest event during Coca-Cola 600 race week, the Coca-Cola Racing Family "Casting Call," invited fans to audition for a walk-on/extra role in a Coca-Cola Racing Family pre-feature entertainment spot set to run in movie theaters across the country this fall. The pre-feature shoot will take place in Charlotte on Wednesday, May 31.
Ten contestants selected in a random drawing at the Coca-Cola Stage on Thursday, along with 10 winners from a local radio promotion, were asked to display their acting talents by reading lines from a NASCAR-themed script. A special judging panel, including Coca-Cola Racing Family driver Bill Elliott, chose Shults as the walk-on/extra role winner.
Last year, the Coca-Cola Racing Family pre-feature entertainment - which included hilarious clips of drivers re-creating scenes from films such as "Forrest Gump," "The Godfather," "Wayne's World" and "Grease" - ran in more than 10,000 theaters.
The Coca-Cola Racing Family remains the cornerstone of Coca-Cola's involvement in NASCAR. Members include 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott, Jeff Burton, Kyle Petty, Ricky Rudd, Tony Stewart, Steve Park, Kenny Irwin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Other Coca-Cola Racing Family members include Ned and Jason Jarrett. Coca-Cola classic is the Official Soft Drink of NASCAR.
