FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 15, 2000) - Race fans will get a chance to ride with their favorite NASCAR Winston Cup driver through the Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) Auction. Fans with the winning bids will ride with their drivers in a convertible as part of pre-race introductions prior to the April 2 DIRECTV 500. The auction, which also includes racing memorabilia, is open to the public, but limited to 1,000 participants. It will be held following the Albertson's 300 presented by Pop Secret on April 1 at the Village of Champions, located outside Gate 7. "Riding with a NASCAR driver in the parade lap is a chance of a lifetime," said Alicia Jenkins, director of the Texas chapter of SCC. "Every driver, with the exception of Bobby Labonte, will be auctioned at the SCC Auction." Bobby Labonte will be auctioned off by WBAP, the official radio station of Texas Motor Speedway. The radio station will take bids on air throughout the race week. In addition to the parade lap, the winning bidder will receive a photograph and an SCC hat. Proceeds from all auctioned drivers will go to SCC. The SCC Auction will also offer race fans the chance to purchase authentic racing memorabilia. Race collectibles for the auction include autographed helmets from Dale Jarret, Terry Labonte, Mark Martin, as well as an autographed driver uniform from Joe Nemechek. Other items include: a trunk lid of the #24 Dupont car driven by Jeff Gordon; sheet metal from Dale Earnhardt's car; and sheet metal from the car of Mike Skinner. In all, there will be over 40 memorabilia items that will be auctioned. "The SCC Auction is a great event for both SCC and the race fans," said Jenkins. "The auction will have something for everyone. We are thrilled with the donations we have received from all of the NASCAR drivers." SCC is a non-profit organization that raises and distributes funds to qualified charities that specifically address the needs of children. Since its conception in 1997, SCC Texas chapter has distributed over $715,000 to numerous children's charities throughout north Texas.
