STATESVILLE, N.C., (May 1, 2003) -- Evernham Motorsports announces a new addition to the staff of Evernham Engines. Effective immediately, Mark McArdle joins the organization as general manager.
McArdle's responsibilities include overseeing the more than 50 employees of Evernham Engines, which is located in Concord, N.C. The shop supplies engines to the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid, No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid as well as the No. 14 Harrah's Dodge. McArdle's focus is managing the organization's current operation while increasing its commitment to using available technology to help reach engineering-based solutions.
"It takes a certain level of commitment to succeed in racing," McArdle said. "Ray's philosophy and my philosophy are right in line. You have to constantly be looking at ways to improve and make your product better. Ray and Dodge have proven that they are focused on remaining innovative in the sport, by using technology as a baseline for success. I have been involved in other racing series and have experienced the rewards of this type of decision making."
McArdle boasts more than 20 years in motorsports -- the majority in open-wheel racing, where he helped produce Indianapolis 500 wins for racing legends Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipadli and Al Unser, Jr. In 1997, he was part of a team that won the manufacturer's championship in CART with Mercedes-Benz while working for Ilmor Racing Engines. McArdle has more than four years of experience on the Winston Cup circuit. He joins Evernham Engines from Robert Yates Racing where he was general manager of the engine department.
"Mark's credentials speak for themselves," said Ray Evernham, President and CEO, Evernham Motorsports. "It is important to find every advantage in order to remain competitive in our sport today. The competition is closer than ever before and teams are looking for an edge. With Mark's experience, he is a perfect complement to our organization, and I am confident he will help take us to the next level."
