DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 2, 2000) -- Elliott Sadler and the Wood Brothers CITGO Ford posted a solid 18th place finish in Saturday night's battle under the lights. Sadler qualified the CITGO Ford in the 10th position and was 8th fastest in Friday's final practice session. During the race Sadler fought a tight racecar but raced well in the draft. The finish is his first inside the top-20 at Daytona and he and the team are optimistic for the one remaining restrictor plate race at Talladega.
Quoting Elliott: We have a lot to be thankful for this weekend. We had a great qualifying run, a solid finish and we have a great racecar to take with us to Talladega. I'd say we accomplished our goals for the weekend. Obviously we would have liked to finish in the top-10, but tonight really helped me gain experience at running in the draft with these guys. We've proved the alliance we made with Roush is going to work out great. There were two Roush cars in the top-5 and five inside the top-20. We know this alliance is the right thing for this team and I know we're headed in the right direction.
YOU HAD SEVERAL WRECKS THAT HAPPENED RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. There were two wrecks right in front of me. The first one was in the tri-oval and the second big one was going into turn 3. They were definitely close calls but we made it through unharmed.
Notes of Interest:
The Wood Brothers are scheduled to utilize the Roush alliance again at Richmond International Speedway in September. The alliance will be full-time in 2001.
Elliott Sadler's last outing at Loudon resulted in 14th place finish.
