Earnhardt and Hamlin fail post-qualifying tech, to start at the rear for Duels

Both cars were found to be in violation of the rules.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s tenth place time and Denny Hamlin's third place run have been disallowed by NASCAR. Following the qualifying session, both the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed the post-quals technical inspection.

Earnhardt's car did not meet the minimum height on the left front as Hendrick Motorsports car was one-eighth of an inch too low. Although NASCAR abandoned its ride-height rules in 2014, they still exist for Daytona and Talladega.

The issue with Hamlin was the separation of his rear track bar, which was three quarters of an inch greater than the maximum allowed.

As a result, both cars will have to start from the rear of the field for the Duels, but will likely face no further penalties.
