INDIANAPOLIS -- Thursday, in the first round qualifying session, the CITGO Ford turned a laptime of 50.350 seconds (178 mph). The team decided to stand on their 26th place time for Friday's second round qualifying. Two drivers posted faster times than Sadlerís first round qualifying speed, resulting in a 28th starting spot for Sadler in the Brickyard 400.
By the conclusion of happy hour, NASCAR's final practice session, Elliott Sadler and the team consistently posted laptimes in the top 20. When practice concluded, Sadler was 18th fastest overall.
After the drop of the green flag on Saturday, Sadler patiently waited for the field to sort out. He settled in and began posting lap times as good as the 12th place car. He advanced into the 22nd position after the team opted for a two tire stop under the first caution of the afternoon.
After the second and final caution of the Day, Sadler was forced to pit road for an untimely pit stop after brushing the outside retaining wall. The unscheduled stop proved to be detrimental to Sadlerís finish. He was forced to pit with only eight laps remaining in the race resulting in a 34th place finish.
Quoting Elliott: "We're not happy with our results. This was a brand new car so this was obviously the first time it had ever been raced. We found some things today that will make it better. We just have to put this behind us and focus on next weekend's race at Watkins Glen."
