FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 7, 2000) - Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) will drop the green flag on this year's fundraising events with the Star-Telegram Speedway Children's Charities Golf Tournament.

The golf tournament will kick off the DIRECTV 500 race week events. Tee-off for the event, a Florida scramble, is set for Wednesday, March 29 at TOUR 18, located just 15 minutes from Texas Motor Speedway in Flower Mound. Last year's event raised more than $60,000 for SCC. A VIP Lunch will start the day, followed by a 1 p.m. shot-gun start.

NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Tony Stewart, Steve Park and Kevin Lepage, Busch drivers Tim Fedewa, Randy Lajoie, Jason Jarrett, Todd Bodine, and Bobby Hillin, Indy car legend Johnny Rutherford, and Pennzoil World of Outlaws drivers Steve Kinser and Danny Lasoski are all scheduled to play in the tournament.

"This tournament gives golfers and race fans the opportunity to play a round with some of racing's greatest drivers," said Alicia Jenkins, director of the Texas chapter of SCC. "Everyone can have a fun-filled day and help numerous children's charities across North Texas."

The day concludes with an awards dinner and auction featuring signed helmets, artwork and other racing memorabilia with all the proceeds going to local charities. For information on Speedway Children's Charities contact Alicia Jenkins at (817) 215-8564 for additional information.
