"I thought I had a flat tire and we lost two laps because of that and put us back early. That was my fault. We didn't have a flat and must've just picked up some junk on the tires. This is a great race team and I wish these guys the best the rest of the year with Johnny. Hopefully something good will come around the corner."
JAMES INCE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"It was just a tough deal today. We thought we had a flat early, came in to change tires and that cost us two laps. Later in the race we needed fuel and came in and pitted, a few laps later the caution came out and we lost two laps again. So we lost four laps in the pits, but I don't believe we ever lost a lap on the racetrack. Jerry drove his heart out. For this to be a back-up car that literally had three laps on it when we started this morning, it probably wasn't that bad of day for performance. We for sure don't have the finish that we want, but we'll take that and get out of here. I got to tell you, Jerry Nadeau drove his heart out.
JERRY SAID THE CHALLENGE IN A SUBSTITUTE ROLE LIKE THIS PROBABLY FALLS ON THE CREW CHIEF. "Well, it's just a communication thing. It takes a long time for everyone to understand what they mean or what's being said, not only for me to understand him, but for him to understand me, too. And that's not something you can just create overnight, but he did a really good job in a short amount of time. I'm kind of surprised he doesn't have a ride right now, but I'm sure he will before long."
STACY COMPTON, NO. 14 CONSECO PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"We had a great race car today, Mike made great calls in the pits and we had great pit stops. We just got to get that monkey off our back. We pitted and two laps later the caution came out. I mean, we ran on the lead lap all day. We just can't buy a break right now. I don't know what we got to do to get that monkey off our back, but that was the best race car we've had all year. It ran great all day, the guys made some great pit stops, great calls in the pits, and I'm just a little frustrated right now to run that good and not come home where we should. But I guess that's the way it goes. I also got to say my hat's off to Jimmy Spencer. Everybody gives Jimmy a hard time, but Jimmy and I raced all day and he raced me clean all day long. It's tough to do that here at Dover, and Jimmy raced me awful good all day - we raced side by side probably half the race and we never touched. I enjoyed racing with him."
