Dover: Pontiac - Jerry Nadeau interview

Jerry Nadeau qualified third in the #10 Valvoline Pontiac Grand Prix for tomorrow's MBNA Platinum 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Dover International Speedway. This is Nadeau's second race as a substitute driver for Johnny Benson. Benson is scheduled to return in the Valvoline Pontiac next week at Pocono.

JERRY NADEAU, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:

YOU HAD AN IMPRESSIVE QUALIFYING RUN IN JUST YOUR SECOND RACE WITH THE VALVOLINE TEAM. "It was a pretty decent lap. I like this place. The guys gave me a great race car. We qualified well last week at Charlotte (seventh) but didn't have a great race, but the guys did a good job this weekend and I'm looking forward to the race. I know we got a great race car. We had a second here last year, and I've led this race a few times. I've always liked this place.

YOU SEEM TO HAVE GOTTEN UP TO SPEED WITH THIS TEAM IN A SHORT TIME. "Yea, this is a good race team. You know, we had a good qualifying run last week at Charlotte, but unfortunately we just didn't have enough time to work with each other to get good race setup, but I think we learned a lot form last week to apply to this week. The guys gave me a great car. I think we have a great car for the race, and I'm just looking to stay out of trouble and have a good finish for these guys and then Johnny will be back in the car next week.

THE VALVOLINE TEAM HAS HAD GOOD RESULTS HERE IN THE PAST, BUT YOU HAVE RUN WELL HERE TOO. WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOVER? "I just like tough racetracks - I like driver's tracks. I think it's fun and I think you can show more. These guys make it easy when they give you a good car."

YOUR THOUGHTS ON TOMORROW'S RACE. "I feel great. This is a great
racetrack and I like this place. The guys gave me a great car and I'm
looking forward to the race. We'll see how we go."

WHAT'S BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE SUBSTITUTING FOR THIS TEAM THE LAST TWO RACES? "Johnny and I have different driving styles so not everything that he runs will necessarily work for me. It's tough because you have to change things and you really don't have enough time. It's really puts more of a burden on the crew chief than anything else. He's got to figure out what kind of driver I am in a short period of time. I think we did the best we could under the circumstances last week, and I think this week will be even better."

AFTER THIS WEEK, WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU? "To be honest, I don't know. I wish I could say I do, but I'm ready to do anything."
