JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 40 Target Dodge Charger)

HOW BIG IS THIS FOR A POTENTIAL TURNING POINT IN YOUR CAREER? "This is a huge deal. People don't realize that for me personally it is a great opportunity. I'm really appreciative of the fact that Chip (Ganassi) and Felix (Sabates) and Steve (Lane) and Tony (Glover) and everyone at Target that gave me this opportunity. That was a pretty big decision you know to get someone to come in here and driver the cars, so it's a huge opportunity for me. I'll look back at this one day and say that this is probably the biggest opportunity of a lifetime for me probably in my career. I don't know why. I just think that this is something that is going to help me in the future just by them taking a chance on me for one race.

"Hopefully some other teams will take a look and see what we've done here and hopefully we'll have a good run here and make it even better than that. I'm just really thankful. It helped my confidence knowing when I got here yesterday and got in this car, you know we talked during the week and I knew I was going to drive and I went to Pocono with them, obviously I didn't get in the car because Dario was feeling better and I was just there to help him if he had trouble. To sit in his car one time, you don't see that very often to come in here and the car is not even in the top 35 and I haven't driven the last few weeks, and I've been in some bad rides the last couple years, but to come in here and drive a car again that drives good.

"We had a great practice today where the car is handling good and just driving awesome. That's brought my confidence back up today. Just saying like, okay, there is a big difference in equipment right here. I can tell you that. I can vouch for that for sure. I didn't realize it was that big, but after yesterday this car is driving like my old cars drove. Like the No. 19 and the No. 12. For a while there I was like, 'man, maybe these drive different and I haven't got the hang of it yet.' But, that car right there is a lot like my old ones."

HOW DO YOU FEEL TO BE BACK IN A DODGE? "That right there is one of the coolest things. I had such a great relationship with Dodge and all of the people there. I don't know, I miss Dodge a lot. I still have my SRT 10 that I drive everyday and I still have my Viper, so I definitely favor my Dodge products and really believe in them to this day. I miss the days at all of the Dodge Dealers too, but this is a chance for me to come back home. I get to do hospitality with them tomorrow and I'm really excited about that. The soldiers are going to be there that just got back from Iraq, so I can go talk to the soldiers and I can talk about Dodge so that is going to be a pretty good day for me tomorrow too."

HOW DO YOU AVOID THE MONSTER PART OF THE MONSTER MILE? AND DO YOU LIKE RUNNING ON CONCRETE? "I like it. You know this place has been pretty good to me. I've never won a race here, but I've finished second two times and have a couple top fives. I like running here. They call it the 'Monster Mile' but I learned a long time ago that if you respect it, it'll take car of you, so that's kind of the way that I look at this place. If you're not careful it can take you out of contention here really quick.

ON QUALIFYING YESTERDAY: "Yesterday when we were qualifying one little mistake and we could have missed the race. There is a lot of pressure on this team and me and everybody, so that's pretty amazing for everyone to come in here and work together like we did, and running like we are not is pretty good. It's going to be the same way in the race. I'm going to take chances, but I'm not going to take as many chances as I probably should take because we have to get some points for this team and get them back in the top-35."

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF QUALIFYING TRIM AND IN TO RACE TRIM? "It didn't take long. I think a lot of guys are pretty close any more with the race package and the qualifying package. It's just a few springs and a couple things here and there."
