Dover, DE (May 31, 2002) --- Matt Kenseth, driver of the #17 DEWALT Power Tools Ford Taurus, captured his first career Winston Cup Pole today at Dover International Speedway, with a speed of 154.939 mph. Kenseth topped the charts during the morning practice session and duplicated the effort on his first qualifying lap.

"It was a great lap, stated Matt. "When I got done and saw the time I was like, 'Aw, that's not gonna hold up for the pole' because I figured everybody would pick up. But everybody dropped off a little bit. I felt like I got everything out of my car that I could get out of it and it just felt like a good, solid lap. The car has been really fast since we unloaded it. We had a great test here a couple of weeks ago and learned a lot from that. Our car unloaded off the truck really good and I'm just hoping it drives that good in race configuration tomorrow."

Bill Elliott captured the second starting position for Sunday's race and will join Matt Kenseth on the front row. In 1998, Matt made his Winston Cup debut at Dover International Speedway substituting for Bill Elliott. Kenseth turned many heads that September day as he brought the McDonald's Ford home in 6th place. Since them, the success has continued for Matt at Dover, capturing 2 Busch Series wins in 1998 and 2000 and a second place showing in the Winston Cup Series in 2000.

Catch the #17 DEWALT Power Tools Ford and driver Matt Kenseth compete in the MBNA Platinum 400 live at Dover on FX, Sunday, June 2 at 1:00 PM and on MRN radio affiliates.
