Making Milestone Moment
Hamlin Hopes History Helps Him
NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: Toyota Camry drivers have combined for nine wins (Kyle Busch -- Las Vegas, Bristol-1, Richmond and Bristol-2; Denny Hamlin -- Pocono-2 and Richmond-2; David Reutimann -- Charlotte; Joey Logano -- New Hampshire; and Brian Vickers -- Michigan-2), 34 top-fives and 62 top-10 finishes through 27 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races this season ... After one race in this year's Chase, Hamlin is third in the standings, 35 points behind leader Mark Martin, and Vickers is 90 points out of first in eighth-place ... Vickers will make his 200th career NSCS start on Sunday, becoming the youngest driver to reach that milestone at 25 years, 11 months and four days ... Sunday's event at Dover is also Toyota's 100th NSCS race since joining the series in 2007.
How does it feel to be the youngest driver with 200 career NSCS starts? "200 starts? Wow. Makes me feel old. It's pretty cool when you think about it. It's a big accomplishment. I'm glad to have been involved in the sport, at this level, for that long. It's only going to get better as it goes on and as I progress in my career. It is not something I have really thought about, but how many people can say they are doing what they love at any age? That's the cool part."
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Do you know what it takes to win the championship? "I've been in it three years and I haven't won it any of those three years, so I know what not to do. You can't let one race get you down or bother you. You can go on a roll here in these last 10 races and really perform well. I kind of got impatient when I had a bad race early in the Chase the last couple years, and it has cost me towards the end of the year when I was trying to make up those points. I think you have to just maintain your confidence no matter what happens the first two or three races, and maintain your composure for the most part."
KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
What are your goals for the rest of the season? "We're just trying to steal points from these guys to help out the 11 (Denny Hamlin). I'm going to try to help out my teammate as much as I can to win this championship. But, I also feel like we've got some good tracks coming up that we could do some damage at and finish off the year with some more wins, including this weekend for Interstate Batteries at Dover. We've also got Charlotte, California and Talladega, which have been good places for us in the past."
JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
How difficult is it to drive at Dover? "This is one of the tracks where I have the most NASCAR experience on and I can tell you calling it The Monster Mile' is appropriate -- it's tough. I've only run one Cup race there and we ran pretty well and finished in the top-15. It's actually pretty encouraging because that was early in the season and we've come a long way as a race team. We've improved a lot, I've improved a lot, so hopefully we can improve on 15th and get The Home Depot Toyota into the top-10. "
