Marlin's Solid Run Thwarted in Dover

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 24, 2006) -- Sterling Marlin was pretty much on pace to post a solid finish in Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Dover International Speedway. But while running 18th on Lap 235 of 400, Marlin's day went from fairly good to really bad in a hurry.

"We were making good adjustments and cruising along looking to make a late-race charge," explained Marlin. "But then all of a sudden somebody who thinks they know how to drive put our Waste Management Chevrolet in the fence. The car was never the same after that and we lost a couple of laps because we were forced to come in to change tires and make some quick repairs."

As Marlin was exiting Turn 4 on the Monster Mile, he got turned around by the No. 40 car of David Stremme and made heavy contact with the wall.

The incident left Marlin with no choice but to bring the MB2 Motorsports entry down pit road for repairs. The end result was that he went from running in the top 20 to falling three laps behind and posting a 31st-place finish.

"I hurt more for the team," offered Marlin. "They have worked so hard and are so dedicated. And in only a few races with us, Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) has done a great job. We have open communications. These guys deserve better and I want to give them some good results in the closing races."

Marlin's next attempt to produce a strong finish for the No. 14 team will be Sunday (Oct. 1) at Kansas Speedway.
