Menard Looking to Continue Momentum at Dover
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sep. 17, 2008) -- Paul Menard and his No. 15 Menards/Dale Earnhardt Inc. team jump from a tire test at Daytona International Speedway to an action packed weekend of racing at "The Monster Mile" in Dover, Delaware.
"It's great to be part of the testing that Goodyear and NASCAR arrange," Menard said of his participation in the two day test. "I'm just happy to have the extra track time and to be able to contribute to the sport, but it's definitely been a busy couple of days."
Coming off a solid 21st place finish at New Hampshire, Menard knows Dover International Speedway is a track where he can continue his momentum.
"I've always enjoyed racing at Dover," Menard said. "We've had solid finishes in both Cup races we've run at the track. This past June we qualified 13th and would have had a top-10 or at least a top-15, but we lost a cylinder late in the race."
Menard's two Sprint Cup Series starts at the track have resulted in a 21st place finish (September -- 07) and a 22nd place finish (June -- 08).
"The race in the spring was interesting, lots of action and the name of the game was survival," Menard said of the race that saw an 11 car wreck on lap 19. "We had some slight damage from the big wreck at the beginning, but the Menards over-the-wall crew worked quickly to repair the damage and we were able to stay on the lead lap."
Menard's Crew Chief Doug Randolph cites Menards ability to stay focused as a key to his success at Dover.
"Paul is a serious driver who has a real talent for staying focused no matter what's happening on track and that's very important at a place like Dover, where everything happens so fast," Randolph said. "From what I saw in June, Paul's got a great handle on getting around this track and it should be a great weekend."
Menard's primary car for this weekend's Camping World RV "400" presented by AAA was last run at Bristol Motor Speedway in August, where Menard qualified 16th and finished 16th. With a new body and tailclip, Menard feels even better about the weekend ahead.
"I definitely feel good about the car we're bringing this weekend," Menard said of his Dale Earnhardt Inc. chassis #038. "I expect we can find similar success in Dover to what we had at Bristol."
