MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DeWalt Taurus (Qualified 11th)
"I guess I'm happy with the time. It didn't feel that great. Robbie thought I'd run a .46, so when he came back and said .06 that's definitely better, but we were just kind of free. I couldn't really get in the gas and whenever the track sits like that even for 10 minutes it seems to get a little slicker, so I'm real happy with that speed. Hopefully, that will get us somewhere around 15th or a little bit better and get a decent place to start."
HOW WAS THE LAP? "It was OK. We weren't handling perfect, I don't think, for qualifying trim but we worked really hard on race setup this morning and I just kind of went out and looked at what some of the other guys did and went out and ran a lap. Overall, that was a good speed for us."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Qualified 15th)
WAS IT KIND OF LIKE GOING IN A TIME MACHINE TODAY HEARING TODD ON THE RADIO? "Yeah, it was pretty neat to walk in the trailer and Todd be there. I think we kind of picked up where we've been in the past. Communication-wise, a lot of the thinking along the same lines, and hopefully that will in turn be related into some good things before the weekend's over and before these next nine weeks are over."
HOW ABOUT QUALIFYING? "It was pretty good. We had a little bit of an issue of getting up out of the corner, late exit the whole time. It seemed like I was so close to hitting the wall, especially off of turn four every time, and it was hurting us a little bit there. But it was a good day for us really. We could start in the top 20 and if we can do that, I think we'll be OK. This is a race car that has a different body on it from what we've been running. We needed to get some time in a race on it and already, to me, it feels like something I can be pretty aggressive with and, hopefully, that will be good."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus (Qualified 20th)
"Traditionally this place has always been better to have a late draw - just the history of it. I'm not really sure in recent races if it's worked out that way, but I know when you go back a few years you always wanted an early draw. We ran better than I expected to run so we'll see where it shakes out. I'm not really sure where that will put us, but it's a little bit better than we expected. We didn't ever really get a hold of the track in practice but that was a better run."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus (Qualified 18th)
"I'm pretty disappointed with that lap. The car is way faster than that, but I don't know what happened. It just ended up not turning very good. It was a little loose in and kind of wiggled a little bit and there was just no speed. We were at the top of the board in practice, so this wasn't what we were expecting."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Qualified 22nd)
"We didn't qualify as good as we wanted to because we were a lot faster than that in practice, but we'll take wherever we can start at and go from there. The car tightened up a lot more than we expected but we should be OK come Sunday. We think we're gonna have a good race car and that's all that matters. We're gonna keep working together hard and kind of go from there."
CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 Office Depot Taurus (Qualified 32nd)
"We learned a lot here in race trim, but we just didn't get the lap that we needed there. I just wasn't as fast as I needed to be. That's the bottom line."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus (Qualified 7th)
"That's a 10 for the crew and for everybody with the Viagra team. It's an honor to drive for these guys. It's awesome. What an opportunity I have here."
HOW MUCH WERE YOU ON THE EDGE? "Not on the edge enough to wreck it. These guys put a lot of work into these things and I drive 'em as hard as I can go. It's ridiculous to tear it up before it's time to use it, so it was under control. The car was awesome. It was a great lap. It's gonna be a good starting spot. It's a great car and I'm at one of my favorite places. This is just a great opportunity. What a privilege this is."
HOW ABOUT YOUR LAP? "It's gonna be a great starting spot. I just want to thank my team. They're my heroes. This is a brand new car and we're ready to go. We're at a great place and it's just an honor and a privilege to be able to work with these guys. They've given me an opportunity to race for this championship and it's early on, but we're getting ready to do it."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Crown Royal Taurus (Qualified 10th)
"The car seemed to just struggle a little bit in the center of the corner all through practice and again we did that in qualifying. I was just tight in the center. We tried to throw everything we knew at it. It was good to go back to this regular format of seeing who is the fastest, but we always know that on Fridays Newman is the fastest, but it's a good start for us. We just hope we stay out of trouble on lap three and go for the whole distance this time."
