"That was a big disappointment. We had a lot better car than that."
MATT KENSETH-17-DeWalt Power Tools Taurus (qualified 17th)
"It was just way too tight, for some reason, just too tight. It was an okay lap. Hopefully it will get us some where in the top 15, I'm hoping."
ELLIOTT SADLER-21-Motorcraft Taurus (qualified 15th)
"Just a little bit too tight, this U.S. Air Force Ford. It's one of my favorite cars, and we usually run pretty well here at Dover, but just a little bit too tight for qualifying. Probably not going to get a good starting spot, but we had a good race setup here in the spring race, we're going to put that in in the morning, and hopefully get this car to the front."
DAVE BLANEY-77-Jasper Engines & Transmissions Taurus (qualified 14th)
"We almost backed up our practice speed. Our practice speed was only in the middle. I felt pretty good in practice, but I was only 23rd. I thought the car drove pretty good, so I really didn't know where I was giving it up. It got a little better right there. I don't know. We may hang in for a top 15. Really, after this morning, I thought we were shooting for."
RUSTY WALLACE-2-Miller Lite Taurus (qualified 1st)
"It was about two-tenths of a second off on the practice speed, but the track has slowed down a little bit. This track's pretty good. It wasn't like it was in practice. It always happens when the sun comes out here. It heats up a little bit and slows down. About every time up in here it's done the same thing."
WHAT ABOUT THE NEW TIRE? "They didn't throw us a curveball at all. I love it. I've been campaigning for a softer tire forever. These old tires we've been bringing have been so hard, I just the racing would be better if we'd get some softer tires and let the tires wear and get it so cars slide around a little bit, and the better cars rise to the top. I think Goodyear's brought a really good tire."
RYAN NEWMAN-12-ALLTEL Taurus (qualified 4th)
"Overall, a good run for the ALLTEL Ford. This is one race, Sunday's another race. We'll just see how things go. Hopefully, Rusty and I can end up there in the top five, and, hopefully, on the front row."
MORE. "It heated up quite a bit, and just lost a little bit of grip, it seems like, comes with downforce, horsepower and everything else. So, we'll just see how things go with everybody else."
KURT BUSCH-97-Rubbermaid Taurus (qualified 6th)
"What a difference a year makes. I'm really proud of this team and the way Rubbermaid guys execute. We unloaded and we were terrible, we were last on the chart, and we kept chipping away on it. And our qualifying lap wasn't all that great inside the car. So, what I mean by what a difference a year makes: If I was this bad last year, the way the car felt to me, we probably would've ended up 30th or so. This might actually get us in the top 10, we'll see."
DALE JARRETT-88-UPS Taurus (qualified 2nd)
"Great race car. This is the same car we've won both our races with this year, and it came off the truck fast. Slid up a little bit down in three and four, probably got in there a little hard, just trying hard, but a great effort by these guys and hopefully that'll turn into a victory Sunday."
RICKY RUDD-28-Havoline Taurus (qualified 16th)
"We really thought we'd be a little bit better than that. We didn't touch the car from practice. We were little tight on the exit in practice. We weren't that tight in practice, we were okay. It felt like I gave up a little bit speed in the middle of the corner, had to wait a little bit longer than needed to get back in the gas and that was a tenth in one and two and a tenth in three and four, you add 'em up, it's about two tenths, and that's where we're off at."
