Sadler Tries to Tame The Monster Mile
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Elliott Sadler says he owes one to the "Monster Mile".
Sadler and the No. 19 McDonald's Dodge team hope a return to Dover International Speedway will yield a better result than its previous trip to the 1-mile concrete oval. Sadler turned in a top-10 qualifying effort in June, but an early race incident caused severe damage to the exterior of the No. 19 Dodge resulting in a 42nd-place finish.
With nine races remaining in the 2008 campaign, the No. 19 McDonald's team plans to tame the Monster Mile and visit victory lane for the first time in 2008 while targeting a move higher than its current 23rd place spot in the driver standings. Building momentum for the 2009 season is also a priority to the veteran Sadler.
On Dover: "We were really upset after the June race at Dover. That race meant an awful lot to us. We were running the Best Buy car in the Best Buy race for our favorite charity. To say we wanted to run well would be an understatement. Unfortunately things happened and we were unable to compete at the level we would have liked, but that just means that we are going to try that much harder this time around. We want to see the McDonald's Dodge have a great day. Maybe we can offer Miles the Monster a Big Mac and some fries as a peace offering."
On Finishing the Season Outside of the Chase: "All of the attention right now is on the drivers in the Chase. They are racing hard and doing what they have to do to win a championship. I wish I was in their position, and I'm confident that we are making progress and will be back in the Chase next year, but this season isn't over yet. We have goals that we want to achieve and we are working on those goals each week. We want to win a race. We want to lead laps. We want to run in the top-10 consistently over the last nine races. If we do those things I think it will give us a lot of momentum as we head into the off-season and give us a boost heading into 2009."
Chassis Info: The No. 19 McDonald's Dodge is racing chassis No. 259; a new car that will race for the first time. Chassis No. 233 which last raced in the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway will serve as the backup.
