Elliott will race his Budweiser Shootout Dodge Intrepid R/T in Sunday's Talladega 500. In 48 career starts at Talladega Superspeedway, Elliott has two victories, 10 top fives and 22 top-10 finishes with winnings of almost $1.2 million. Elliott finished 15th in last year's spring race at Talladega and 24th in the October 500-miler. Fresh off a 14th-place finish at Martinsville on April 8, Elliott ranks ninth in the NASCAR Winston Cup Standings (NWCS), 293 points behind the leader.
CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Atwood will race his Daytona 500 Dodge Intrepid R/T at Talladega. Atwood finished 20th in the Daytona 500. Atwood finished 26th two weeks ago at Martinsville and ranks 34th in the NWCS. He's fourth in the Raybestos rookie of the year standings, 20 points behind the leader.
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Burton will race the same Dodge Intrepid R/T that led nine times for 52 laps at Daytona. Burton is the only Dodge driver who has led the most laps in a race this season, but an accident on lap 173 at Daytona robbed Burton of any chance to win the race. He finished 35th. Burton finished 10th last spring at Talladega and 22nd last October. In 11 career starts at Talladega, Burton has three top 10s with a career-best finish of fourth in Oct. 1999. He finished 22nd two weeks ago at Martinsville and ranks 11th in the NWCS, just 32 points out of 10th place.
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Marlin will drive Dodge Intrepid chassis No. 005 at Talladega. It's the same one he finished seventh with earlier this season at Daytona. In 35 career starts at Talladega, Marlin has two victories, nine top fives and 14 top 10s. Marlin finished eighth in last year's spring race at Talladega and 41st last October. He's one of two drivers who has led a lap in each race this season. Fresh off a fifth-place finish at Martinsville, Marlin is tied for third place in the NWCS, 187 points behind the leader. Marlin has three top fives and five top 10s in eight starts in 2001.
JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Andretti will bring a brand new Dodge Intrepid R/T chassis to Talladega. Involved in an accident at Daytona, Andretti finished 39th in that event but has climbed out of the cellar and now ranks 23rd in the NWCS. Andretti finished 11th in last year's spring race at Talladega and 20th at Talladega last October. In 14 career starts at Talladega, Andretti has four top 10s. Andretti finished 35th at Martinsville. He finished second at Bristol to score his best finish of the season and Dodge's best in 2001.
BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Jones will drive his Daytona 5000 chassis at Talladega. Jones finished 29th in the Daytona 500. He has three career starts at Talladega with a best finish of 16th in 1998. Jones finished 38th at Martinsville and is 39th in the NWCS.
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Petty will race a brand new Dodge Intrepid chassis at Talladega. Petty finished 16th in the Daytona 500, his best outing of the season. Petty finished ninth last spring at Talladega. In 39 career starts at the 2.66-mile track, Petty has four top fives and 16 top 10s. He finished 42nd recently at Martinsville and ranks 45th in the NWCS.
STACY COMPTON (No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Compton will race his Daytona 500 chassis at Talladega. He qualified second at Daytona and finished 10th. Compton finished 33rd as a rookie in last season's spring race at Talladega and 23rd at Talladega last October. Compton has finished 11th, 15th and 15th in the past three races and has moved from 35th to 25th in the NWCS. Crew chief Chad Knaus will rejoin the team at Talladega after serving a two-race suspension.
DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Blaney will race his Daytona 500 Dodge Intrepid R/T chassis at Talladega. Engine problems relegated Blaney to a 42nd-place finish at Daytona. He finished 30th as a rookie last spring at Talladega and 28th last fall at Talladega. Blaney finished 29th recently at Martinsville and ranks 28th in the NWCS.
JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T)
Leffler will bring chassis No. 006 to Talladega. It's brand new and is a first cousin to Marlin's chassis No. 005. Leffler didn't qualify at Martinsville and has competed in only six of eight races this season. The Raybestos rookie of the year contender ranks fifth in the rookie standings and 40th in the NWCS.
