Dodge chassis notes for Charlotte

BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Elliott will use chassis No. 17 in The Winston. The Evernham Motorsports team tested it recently at Lowe's Motor Speedway, but it's never competed in a race. Crew chief and team manager Mike Ford said the team plans to run the same chassis next week in the Coca-Cola 600. Elliott, the 1986 winner of The Winston, ranks 14th in the NASCAR Winston Cup Standings (NWCS) after the first 11 races.

CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Atwood will run chassis No. 9 in the Winston Open. It's the same chassis he drove at Texas, qualifying 10th and finishing 36th. Atwood plans to run his California chassis next week in the Coca-Cola 600. Atwood finished 39th at California. Fresh off a 12th-place finish at Richmond, Atwood ranks 35th in the NWCS and fourth in the Raybestos rookie of the year standings.

WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T) Burton will race his Texas chassis in The Winston. Burton finished 21st at Texas. The team is still undecided about the Coca-Cola 600 chassis. Burton finished 21st at Richmond and ranks 19th in the NWCS.

STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T) Marlin will run chassis No. 103 in the Winston Open. It's a brand new chassis. The 43-year-old Tennessee native will race chassis No. 105 next week in the Coca-Cola 600. It's been a workhorse so far this season with starts at Atlanta, Las Vegas, Darlington, Texas and California and finishes of 35th, third, fifth, 34th and ninth. Marlin is fifth in the NWCS, 138 points behind leader Dale Jarrett.

JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Hamburger Helper Dodge Intrepid R/T) Andretti will race his Texas chassis in The Winston Open and the Coca-Cola 600. Andretti finished 31st at Texas. He finished 34th at Richmond and ranks 29th in the NWCS.

BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T) Jones will race his California chassis in The Winston Open and the same chassis in the Coca-Cola 600. Jones failed to qualify for the past two races. He ranks 39th in the NWCS.

KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T) Petty will race his California and Atlanta chassis in The Winston Open and the same chassis in the Coca-Cola 600. Petty finished 35th at California and 42nd at Atlanta. He finished 22nd at Richmond and ranks 44th in the NWCS.

STACY COMPTON (No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T) Compton will race his Richmond chassis in The Winston Open. Compton finished 29th at Richmond and ranks 33rd in the NWCS.

DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 BP/Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T) Blaney will race a brand new chassis in The Winston Open. The team plans to runs its Atlanta and Texas chassis in the 600 next week. Blaney finished 33rd at Richmond and ranks 28th in the NWCS.

JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T) Leffler will run chassis No. 108 in The Winston Open. It's a brand new chassis. The 25-year-old Long Beach, Calif., native will run chassis No. 112 in the Coca-Cola 600. The Raybestos rookie of the year contender raced it earlier this season at Texas and California with finishes of 17th and 18th, respectively. Leffler stands fifth in the rookie standings and 38th in the NWCS.
