Charlotte, NC (January 18, 2002) January may be considered the "off-season" in Motorsports, but with a scarce month until the season-opening event in Daytona Beach, Florida, rookie BAM Racing driver Shawna Robinson and 51 other NASCAR Winston Cup Series competitors are already hot in pursuit of a competitive advantage.
Robinson, today completed a three-day outing at Daytona International Speedway, her first in the 2002 Dodge Intrepid R/T and her first since being announced as the team's driver on January 3, 2002. BAM Racing is powered by Ernie Elliott engines and the car is shod with Goodyear Eagle Racing tires.
The team fulfilled three days on Thursday around the historic 2.5-mile speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Robinson's best time recorded on Wednesday was 49.61 seconds, placing her 15th among the 52 cars that tested in qualifying trim.\
Robinson was excited about the results. "I think the test went very well. I am quite happy with the new car and how it responded to the aero changes that were made over the three days. The BAM Racing engineering team knows exactly what to do and that makes my job much easier. I feel that Eddie Sharp (Crew Chief),Teddy Brown (Car Chief) and I are really starting to communicate well. I can see that we have a lot of room for improvement but I'm confident that, as we continue with our testing program, those improvements will come."
Team Manager Eddie Jones was pleased with the test's results. "It was a good first test and it provided us with a good shake down of the new chassis and team. We primarily focused on getting the car to simulate qualifying conditions instead of participating in the drafting session. We feel as a new team we need to get all the speed we can out of the car running by itself before we focus on dialing it in for race conditions."
Crew Chief Eddie Sharp stated, "I am really pleased with how well the test went. Shawna and the team are communicating very well and things are really coming together. We are looking forward to testing in Talladega next week and trying some new things we found in Daytona."
The BAM Racing team travels to Talladega, Alabama next week to continue their preseason preparations on the high banks of Talladega Super Speedway.
