JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS IMPALA, was involved multi-car accident during practice for Budweiser Shootout:
WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE? "I don't know, I didn't see it on tape. They just said the No. 11 (Denny Hamlin) car got in to the outside of the No. 5 (Mark Martin) and caused a big wreck. I don't really know what happened, so I couldn't place blame on anybody. It does seem awful early to race that hard in practice for a race that doesn't pay points.
"The No. 5 got turned around. You go to the bottom to try to get away from that, but you can only turn left and the car will only go so quick. I didn't get clipped very hard, just barely.
"I saw the wreck happen on the outside and you turn to left and try to get away from it, but you can only turn so hard. It is amazing how fast those cars come back across the track."
HOW WAS THE CAR? "I don't know, I mean we only ran 10 laps. I don't know what I had. This car is done. But they are going to drive this car home tonight and rebuild it and bring it back."
ARE YOU A LITTLE SURPRISED THERE WAS THAT TIGHT OF PACK OF RACING SO EARLY? "We come here to race and it is fun. I mean, it is a lot of fun to get out there and be a part of that. But there is not really any reason to put yourself in a position to get run in to."
MARK MARTIN, NO. 5 GODADDY.COM IMPALA, was involved multi-car accident during practice for Budweiser Shootout:
WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE? "Probably a case of both of us anticipating something where it caused a flash. I anticipated him (Denny Hamlin). It looked like he was going to try to squeeze in on the outside of me, so I made an effort to give him the lane. And, he anticipated to get behind me, not that it wasn't worth it to get in behind me instead. So, if either one of us had just anticipated something else, then it wouldn't have happened. I saw him look for the outside and you know, it was practice, no reason to put the squeeze on him. I made an effort to give him a lane. I think at that same time, he decided it wasn't worth pushing it so he decided to get in behind me so that caused us to come together."
WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE BACKUP CAR? "I will have to talk to Alan (Gustafson, crew chief) about that."
IS THIS UPSETTING OR IS IT JUST PRACTICE AT DAYTONA WHEN EVERYONE FIRST GETS IN THE CAR? "It is middle of the road. It is a huge disappointment for my team. I feel for my team. To be down a car already is not a good way to start of SpeedWeeks. I was really happy with my car there and I wish we wouldn't have torn it up. I feel really bad for all the people and all the work that has gone in to it. I was making an effort to be on the cautious side and I think Denny did to. And in this particular caseit created a situation where we came together. Where if just one of us had been just a little bit wilder, maybe it wouldn't have happened."
