ELLIOTT FINISHES 12TH IN BUDWEISER SHOOTOUT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2006) -- It came up all 12s for Bill Elliott in Sunday's rain-delayed Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. The redhead from North Georgia started the invitational race 12th, was 12th after the 20-lap intermission and finished the 72-lap overtime race 12th.

"We never could get up there," said Elliott. "This is the kind of race if you can't win there's no sense to wreck yourself or someone else. You just want to stay out of trouble and keep your nose clean."

"The Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet wasn't bad," added Elliott. "However, I am pretty confident that our 500 car will be much better in the draft. Considering this was our first race together I think we did pretty well. It was a successful test for our races next week."

Speaking of next week's races, Elliott will start third in the first qualifying race on Thursday (TNT, 2 p.m. ET). Except for the front row, the twin 150-mile qualifying races will determine the starting lineup for Sunday's Daytona 500. The front row (Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon) was locked in earlier today in Pole Day qualifying.
