Daytona postponed until 11 a.m. Sunday

Rain blanketing area, no signs of stopping in time for NASCAR race

The Coke Zero 400 has been postponed until Sunday 11 a.m. Rain is blanketing the area and shows no sign of slowing. Air Titans and Jet Driers have been on the track constantly, but at 9 p.m., the rain is harder than ever.

The good news: Fireworks show underway now! Evidently, fireworks are not refundable -- you buy 'em, you shoot 'em.

"You reach a point where it contnues to rain, and from the time it stops, and you use a time of 1 hour and 45 minutes to dry the track," said Joie Chitwood, track president, "that we would be racing until past 2 a.m." And it is still pouring down.

The forecast is iffy for Sunday, but with an 11 a.m. start, Chitwood said it leaves a lot of the day left to get the race in. It offers, he says, "a big window."

The garage and gates open at 9 a.m.
