Menard Turns in Top-10 Performance; Will Start 21st in Daytona 500

Daytona Beach, FL -- Paul Menard turned in his first top-10 performance of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season in the first of two qualifying races for the Daytona 500.

"Great pit work today and a great call by Doug Randolph to stay out on the last caution there with a few laps to go," Menard said following the race. "It was fun to run in the qualifying race knowing we were locked in the show, but it was even better to start out the year with a solid top-10 finish."

After taking the green flag, Menard quickly advanced on his 16th place starting spot and was shown in 8th place by the second lap of the race. Menard narrowly avoided the spinning racecar of Brian Vickers on lap three and managed to keep his Chevrolet planted firmly on the racetrack in seventh position.

Menard continued to ride out the majority of the race in the 15th position, but after the team's pit stop for four tires and fuel on lap 35, Menard set his sights on the top-10 pack of cars. He slowly made his way up to 12th place by lap 48. When the caution flap flew on lap 55, Menard was up to 11th place and looking forward to the checkered flag. During the green, white, checkered finish, Menard managed to gain one additional spot, finishing in 10th place.

After the team's solid finish in the qualifying race, the No. 15 Peak/Menards Chevrolet will line up 21st in the 50th running of the Daytona 500.
