Home Depot Racing:
New numbers for #20 Team.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Feb. 15, 2003) - Tony Stewart's Home Depot Chevrolet is designated by the number 20, but for Sunday's Daytona 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway, another number will augment the traditional '20' that has adorned Stewart's Joe Gibbs Racing machine since his rookie year in 1999.
Number 4414 will be carried on the lower rear quarterpanel of The Home Depot Chevrolet, the internal reference number given to The Home Depot store in Logan, Utah. That store is the first to be recognized by an internal Home Depot program acknowledging the outstanding store of the week.
"Our racing program began because it was something our associates wanted, and as our sponsorship has matured, we wanted to utilize our partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing as an incentive program for those very associates," said Hugh Miskel, director of sales promotion for The Home Depot. "Store #4414 now has a vested interest in the Daytona 500, and if Tony wins, they'll have bragging rights amongst their counterparts in other Home Depot stores - over 1,500 strong and growing."
For each race on the Winston Cup schedule, including The Winston all-star race in May, Home Depot will recognize an outstanding store of the week, and their number will be placed on the lower rear quarterpanel of The Home Depot Chevrolet.
In addition to a store's internal number being featured on the orange and black #20, Home Depot will entertain winning store managers and their guests at four Winston Cup races during the 2003 season.
