Schrader's Thoughts On Daytona...
"Daytona has been a really good race for us in the past. There was one year where I won the Bud Shootout, the Twin 125s and finished second to my teammate in the 500. I thought that was pretty good, until I woke up the next morning.
"Winning the Daytona 500 is the one piece of the puzzle that is missing. It seems that we are always running in the lead pack as the laps wind down, and we hope to take full advantage of that opportunity this year. This "M&M's"® Racing Team is hungry for a win, and what better place to start than Daytona."
"M&M's"® Racing Highlights...
* "M&M's"® Racing Team driver Ken Schrader has enjoyed a successful career at Daytona. The 17-year veteran of the Winston Cup circuit has celebrated in the historical victory lane four times, and he hopes to add a fifth checkered flag at the 2.5-mile superspeedway in 2002. Schrader won the Bud Shootout twice (1989, 1990), and he won his Gatorade Twin 125 qualifying event twice (1987, 1989).
* Schrader is one of two drivers who have posted the quickest qualifying lap for the Daytona 500 in three consecutive years. Driver Bill Elliott scored the pole three times (1985, 1986 and 1987). Schrader followed with three poles of his own (1988, 1989 and 1990).
* Schrader will keep busy in Daytona scurrying between two garages - Winston Cup and Craftsman Truck - as he plays the role of both driver and owner. Driver Mike Wallace will pilot the Schrader Racing entry in the truck race on Friday, Feb. 15.
* Did you know that if you lined up all the "M&M's"® produced each year, you would be able to make almost 661,946 laps around Daytona International Speedway. That would be like running the Daytona 500 more than 3,300 times.
