February 7. 2009 - NASCAR legend James Hylton's 2009 Daytona 500 effort ended today when the number 60 Dodge Charger was unable to complete a lap in either of the two mandatory practice sessions. The 74 year-old racing legend was attempting to compete in the 51st annual running of the historic NASCAR racing classic. Hylton's 2009 Dodge Charger experienced issues that could not be corrected within the time allotted by NASCAR.

"I feel like I been snake bit" stated a dejected Hylton "but I will be back running at Salem Speedway in April with my Ford. The crew changed the starter, battery and more or less rebuilt the carburetor. The motor ran fine when we unloaded off the hauler. It's just disappointing when something like this happens."

During his storied career, Hylton has competed in 15 Daytona 500 events with his best finish being a third in 1967.
