Daytona 500 hits halfway point ... Gordon leads Hendrick trio, Stewart in the garage

100 laps down, and just 100 more to go in the 2015 Daytona 500.

Daytona Beach, Fla. - 250 miles into the Daytona 500 and its pole-sitting Jeff gordon in command of the pack. He leads Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Only Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano have been able to take over the top spot for more than a couple laps.

35 cars remain on the race track with another two in the garage. On the 20th lap, Landon Cassill suffered a catastrophic engine failure and he will finish last. 22 laps later, chaos ensued on the front stretch. Tony Stewart got loose and while trying to catch it, he went across the nose of Ryan Blaney and into the wall. Matt Kenseth was pushed into the wall behind them. Brad Keselowski, Michael Waltrip, Jamie McMurray, and Clint Bowyer were also involved in some way.

Green flag pit stops were eventful for a number of reasons. Firstly, there was almost a collision between a slow Martin Truex Jr. and Keselowski, which was avoided by mere inches. NASCAR's new officiating system then grabbed a bunch of drivers including Jimmie Johnson, whose men jumped over the wall too soon. Carl Edwards, Kyle Larson, Bobby Labonte, Mike Wallace, and Truex Jr. were also handed speeding penalties.
