Dodge Charger Driver Quotes:

Scott Riggs (No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "I don't know why the lap was so slow. The car is a little bit better than what we had in practice down here a month ago. We know we have more horsepower to the rear wheels. We know that everything we have done since the test, we've undone and it's not made a difference. So it's just really confusing. I'm proud of all the guys, how hard they've worked. I'm proud of how they keep their focus. I'm proud that they're not pointing fingers at anyone. They just keep working at it. When we find out what's wrong, we'll be the first ones to tell everyone or hopefully, show everyone on the race track. Right now we have to keep working on what we can control and that's making this car drive good in race trim and make sure we have a good car so we can race our way to the front for the 500.

COMMENTS ON WIND AND TRACK CONDITIONS "It was windy, but I hope it stays consistent if not pick up. Right now we're in the same kind of situation as far as track conditions and wind conditions when we were down here a month ago. For some reason we're a lot slower and not much has been done to this car. You know, we'll just keep on working and hopefully we can figure it out.

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING POSITION AFFECTING STRATEGY FOR DAYTONA 500 "It's not going to change our strategy at all. We came down here to qualify and not worry about where we qualify, just worry about what we need to do to make the car drive good in drafting and race good on the long runs and that's still what we're here to do."

Bobby Labonte (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Charger)

COMMENT ON QUALIFYING LAP "It feels pretty good. We ran about an 80 yesterday. I think the wind was probably a pretty big factor, obviously. We didn't get down the back straightaway the way we wanted to. All in all I think it was a good job by everybody who works on the Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge. I'm real excited about it and obviously we'll just have to wait and see what Wednesday unfolds for us for practice for Thursday's race."

COMMENT ON HOW THE CARS DRIVE DIFFERENTLY BETWEEN QUALIFYING SETUP AND RACE "The draft makes it move around so much more, obviously. The qualifying lap you just try and put your hand on the wheel but you try not to put too much pressure on it. You have to be as smooth as you can with it. I'm proud of my guys. They built a pretty good race car. We learned some stuff for Thursday so we should be fine."

Kyle Petty (No. 45 Wells Fargo Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "We ran pretty good, with the wind blowing the way it's blowing. Yesterday we went through a cycle of gear changes just to see what it was going to be like if the wind blew. The wind's picked up a little more than we had anticipated but we're right where we need to be. Evernham engines, those guys work really hard on their restrictor plate stuff, their gear combination, their drivetrain combination. We all use kind of the same stuff. Our guys worked really hard on our bodies, our cars are within a tenth of each other. So we're good. I can't complain."

WHAT'S YOUR STRATEGY FOR THE 500? I don't know it's going to be kind of crazy. I think you have to look at the fact that there are so many cars down here vying for four or five positions. When they're vying for four or five positions and you're already in the race because you're in the top 35. That may change their strategy a little bit. It's all about Sunday, it's not about Thursday. It's only about Thursday for some of us down here."

David Stremme (No 40 Coors Light Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "It was good. The guys worked hard in the shop. They did a really good job. The one thing is that the new Dodge nose has helped us out and it's just an all around effort from everybody. I'm just real proud of all the guys."

COMMENTS ON POSSIBILITY OF STARTING ON FRONT ROW "The Yates guys have done a really good job on their program. We just have to work harder and try to get better but in all I'm really happy with everything going on."

COMMENTS ON STRATEGY FOR DUAL 150'S "One of my teammates will be in my race and we'll help each other. We're going to run hard, get the car handling real well and the car drafted real well down here testing. So this is just the start for the weekend."

Juan Pablo Montoya (No 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "I think it is more about the car. I think everybody from Ganassi and the Texaco/Havoline Dodge has been very good. That is all I can really say. The engine program has come up a long way. We had a fast car in testing, but we came back here with strong motors and it is great to see. The interesting thing to see is how its going to be in the draft and how is the car going to handle. Yes, it is fast so far. We are probably going to finish in the top 5, but we will see."

COMMENTS ON POSSIBILITY OF STARTING ON FRONT ROW "Yes it is a big deal, but I would be happy to be in the front at the end of the 500, not the beginning. I think it is great to see the car is coming a long way with performances."

COMMENTS ON STRATEGY FOR DUAL 150'S "The 150s are going to be a good lesson for me to learn a lot for the 500. That is where a rookie comes in running in the packs and know where to put the car."

Jimmy Elledge - Crew Chief (No. 41 Target Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON ENGINE TROUBLES "We blew a battery out or something, because when we saw it backfire and then it quit. I told him to switch it to the other battery and it started running again so something happened electrical there, and it's unfortunate because we probably would have been up there in the top 5 so far. It's unfortunate, but that is the way it goes."

Kasey Kahne (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "The run seemed fine. Seemed like it did everything it's done in practice. It felt the same, drove the same. The lap time was little bit slower, but it was windier so that was expected. Now we get to draft."

DO YOU HAVE ANY EXTRA STRATEGY GOING INTO THE RACE? "Not really. Just get the car handling as good as possible. You're going to have to handle well in order to run well on Sunday for sure."

Ryan Newman (No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger)

COMMENTS ON QUALIFYING LAP "That was an O.K. lap for the Alltel Dodge. I think we've got a lot better race car than a qualifying car and we'll have to prove that come Wednesday, Thursday through Sunday."

ARE YOU HAPPY TO GET QUALIFYING OUT OF THE WAY "Yeah, after today for sure."

Elliott Sadler (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger)

COMMENT ON QUALIFYING "I think Mother Nature's got us today. My guys just did a great job. The car drove great, just a little wind, that I think hurt us a little bit. All in all we got a great car for the 500, that is all we are worried about. We will go to work to get it handling, get it balanced. We will be fine. That is when they bring the money - next Sunday."
