Domino's Pizza Driver Finishes 40th in Daytona 500 Debut
David Reutimann, driver of the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, started 41st in the Daytona 500 today from Daytona International Speedway.
At first, David was able to slowly move the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota to the front, but a spinning Boris Said cut down David's right rear tire, putting a large dent in the side and forcing the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota to pit in order to fix the damage.
"In the first run the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was good and I wanted to just take my time moving my way to the front, but when Boris (Said) ran into us it seemed to change the car," said David.
From that point the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was playing catch-up. The #00 Domino's Toyota went down a lap early, but the team continued to fight and make adjustments on the car, eventually earning the lap back after a caution.
"The whole night the car was extremely tight, especially up-off the corner. I mean, the car just did not suck-up well enough to others, but the team kept working hard on it -- getting it better each run" said Reutimann of the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota's handling.
Unfortunately, the team's persistence would not be enough as David and the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was collected in an accident on lap 173, along with numerous others-- ending the chances of the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota.
"Even with all the problems we were having during the race, my team was working so hard and we continued to get better -- that's encouraging. I just really wanted to have a solid finish, not just for myself but for the #00 Domino Pizza team, sponsors and fans, said Reutimann.
Watch next weekend for Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender David Reutimann and the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota at California Speedway for the Auto Club 500. More information can be found on the Web at www.teamdominos.com.
