DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 -- The following are notes and quotes from Bobby Labonte, driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet and his crew chief, Steve Addington. Labonte's car experienced engine problems on Lap 14 and he finished 43rd.

DAYTONA 500 NOTES:

* The 43rd-place finish is Labonte's worst finish in the Daytona 500 since he finished 41st in 2003. He was involved in a mid-race accident and completed only 81 of the 109 laps in the rain-shortened race.

* This marks the sixth time that Labonte has finished 40th or worse in a NEXTEL Cup race at Daytona. Three of those (2001, 40th; 2003, 41st; and 2005, 43rd) have come in the Daytona 500.

* The last time Labonte finished 43rd in a NEXTEL Cup race was at the NAPA 500 on Nov. 8, 1998 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He completed 143 laps before experiencing an engine problem.

* In 2002, Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing, experienced engine problems on Lap 2 and finished 43rd. He went onto win the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup championship later that year.

DAYTONA 500 QUOTES:

BOBBY LABONTE (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet): "There was no warning at all. It's just one of those things. There's nothing you can do about it. Obviously, this isn't the way you want to start the season. We'll try to come back at California."

STEVE ADDINGTON (Crew Chief, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet): "He said he didn't have any warning. We broke a valve or a piston. It's nobody's fault. Mark Cronquist and all the guys in the engine shop worked real hard. I know the guys on the Interstate Batteries team will come back and work hard next week at California."
