David Reutimann Looks for Advice from a Racing Legend -- His Father.
David Reutimann will start his Raybestos Rookie of the Year campaign this season for Michael Waltrip Racing. If this was not nerve-racking enough for the Zephyrhills, Florida native, how about starting it with an upstart NEXTEL Cup Toyota team in Michael Waltrip Racing, which has two of its three teams needing to qualify their way in for the first few races? This includes David and his #00 Domino's Pizza team.
Even with these obstacles David still feels fortunate to receive this opportunity. He has an excellent sponsor in Domino's Pizza, plus a solid team led by Crew Chief Frank Kerr supporting him at Michael Waltrip Racing. Still, David has known that throughout his career he has always had a real racing legend in his corner giving him guidance. That racing legend happens to be his father Emil "Buzzie" Reutimann.
Emil "Buzzie" Reutimann, like his father before him, made a name for himself throughout the dirt tracks of the north and southeast running the familiar #00. Starting at the early age of 13, Buzzie won on every type of track and surface while driving every type of race car, which led to his induction into the DIRT Hall of Fame on May 25, 1997.
Besides being a respected race car driver, you can ask anyone and they will tell you that Buzzie is also a humble and generous gentleman that can put a smile on anyone's face. This would explain the phrase that was carried on the back of many of his race cars, "Go First Class."
Now, Buzzie can be found at the race track in support of another Reutimann, his son David. "I remember watching my dad racing growing up and I know he was proud to see me pursue it as well," David Reutimann said. "Racing was pretty much all I knew growing up, and I was lucky to have a Dad that knew so much about the sport. He used to give me financial support to continue racing and now he gives me something just as valuable -- moral support."
David Reutimann will carry on the family tradition, just as his dad Buzzie before him, driving a familiar red, blue and white #00 race car, but this time it will be in the pinnacle of racing -- the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.
Watch for the debut of Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender David Reutimann and the #00 Domino's Toyota Camry this February at Daytona International Speedway.
