STATESVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 3, 1998) Larry Hedrick Motorsports announced Tuesday that David Green has been signed as the driver of the No. 41 Kodiak Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season.

Green has driven the Kodiak Chevrolet in four races in a fill-in role for Hedrick Motorsports late this season, including this past weekend's ACDelco 400 at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, where he finished 26th. The week before at Phoenix International Raceway, Green had qualified the car ninth for the Dura Lube/Kmart 500, the best starting position for the team all year.

Steve Grissom had started the season behind the wheel of the No. 41 car, but was released. Green began the 1998 campaign with Buz McCall's American Equipment Racing outfit, which fields the No. 96 Caterpillar Chevrolet. He was also released from his driving duties.

The 40-year-old Green is a former NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division champion, having won that title in 1994. He placed second in that series in 1996, and was also honored as the Most Popular Driver of the NASCAR Busch Series that season.

Green was runner-up to Mike Skinner for NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year honors in 1997.
