JEFF BURTON - No. 99 CITGO Taurus (Qualified 38th)
"The car was pretty good in race trim, but we made several qualifying runs before the end of practice and the thing is just terrible when we put tape on it and put our qualifying stuff in it. We didn't have enough time to get it fixed, so we just took a stab at it and that's what we've got."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus (Qualified 37th)
"We pushed. We've been sort of tight since we've been here and I just couldn't get the car to turn in the middle of the corner. We probably lost a couple tenths at each end and that's probably the difference. We've just got to go to work on it."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Rubbermaid Taurus (Qualified 6th)
YOU HAD THE POLE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE BEFORE ELLIOTT BUMPED YOU OFF. "Yeah, that's happened a lot, but we do our best and we give it our best each week. I thought I had a great lap, but we just didn't have enough juice off of turn four. I think that's where we lost some of our time. The lap had an incredible feel as far as the four tires on the race track. We're finding a new balance with the downforce that we've been given this year, so we're gonna continue to plug away at it."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Qualified 1st)
"I'm so proud of these M&M guys and Robert and Doug Yates for giving me a bunch of horsepower today. We haven't changed anything. This is the same car we had at Rockingham and I'm just the lucky man behind the wheel. This would really be special to get our first pole here at Darlington. We've got a chance. We'll see what happens. It's a great place to race. I love the fans down here, so it would be good to do it this close to home."
DID YOU CHANGE MUCH FROM PRACTICE? "No, we didn't change anything. The track is a little bit different, but Raymond and Shawn and all the guys made the right adjustments to the tires and everything to get me what I needed to make the lap I did. I definitely do not want to do it again. That was pretty much on the edge and, hopefully, that will be good enough. The track is a lot freer than what it was in practice. I was on the edge a lot, but I knew I was gonna have to be to try and outrun some of these guys. We'll see. I'm pretty nervous. I'm gonna go hide out right now and hibernate until the end of qualifying and hope that will be good enough."
DID YOU GET EVERYTHING OUT OF THE LAP? "I wasn't comfortable at all and usually that's good here at Darlington if you have a good lap, so maybe that will be good enough. I don't know. The 12 car is gonna be the one I think I'm gonna have to beat, so we'll see what happens."
YOU'RE SHAKING? "I'm still shaking right now. I had to take a deep breath. I told the guys when I get out of the car that I was shaking and it was the best I could do. I felt like I hit all my marks. If I left something out there and those guys can run better than that, then they're welcome to it."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Qualified 12th)
"That was awesome. Hopefully, that will get us a top 15 at least, so that was really good. Usually, qualifying is always our weak point here by far. We're normally in the thirties everytime I come here, so that's really awesome. That's by far the best we've ever done."
WAS THIS A SURPRISE CONSIDERING YOU DID A LOT OF RACE RUNS IN PRACTICE? "Yeah, we actually did the same thing at Rockingham and we qualified better, so I don't know if it helps getting some time on the track or what. We made our first run off the truck and we were like 10th or 12th, and then we just worked on race stuff the rest of the time. It's weird to go from the end of a race run on tires and then go out and do a qualifying lap because it's about two seconds difference, but that's a great lap for us."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus (Qualified 27th)
"We were a little better than that, but that's just how it goes. I was trying to get a little more than I should have. I think we're fine. I didn't do a very good job. I got a little bit greedy and tried to get a little more than I should have. We had a better car than that. I got it sliding a little too much just past the middle of one and two and that cost us some time. I think we've got a good car and we'll be ready to race on Sunday."
BRETT BODINE - No. 57 CLR Taurus (Qualified 40th)
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRIVE A CAR THAT ISN'T YOURS? "It's different. It's been a long time since I've done this, but I'm here to help this race team try to sort some things out and they're here to help me keep racing. I'm trying to make a living. I'm a race car driver. I'm disappointed in the qualifying run. I thought we should have run a little quicker than that, particularly with the second lap being the fastest. I felt like I left I too much on the table the first lap, but knowing there were 43 cars here, I'm not gonna take any chances. We're in the race. Let's see how we do racing. That will give these guys a chance to practice pit stops and do all the things they haven't been able to do because they haven't made races."
TODD BODINE - No. 54 National Guard Taurus (Qualified 10th)
"That's not bad. We were pretty much junk in practice, but we put our heads together and made a lot of changes. That made it a lot better. We were having a problem going to the throttle in practice and everything we did helped it. We still needed a little more, but I'm not gonna complain about that."
