Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Jamie McMurray all held Q&A sessions after Friday's practice session at Darlington, where they discussed a variety of topics.
CARL EDWARDS -- No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion
HOW CRAZY HAS IT BEEN FOR THE DRIVERS SINCE YESTERDAY'S NEWS WITH DALE JR.? "It's always interesting to see different people's position in this sport and the decisions they make. I'm pretty new to it, so I learn from watching other folks. Seeing the news about Dale Jr. this week and how he's changing the path of his career is definitely interesting to all of us."
IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR NASCAR TO HAVE HIM AS A FREE AGENT? "I don't know if it's good or bad. The only thing is he's put in his hard work and he comes to the race track and does the best job he can, and his decisions are his decisions and you've got to respect that."
DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE SALARY HE MIGHT COMMAND? "I worry about the 99 Office Depot car and what I'm gonna do to go win races. It's interesting with what's going on, but it doesn't really change anything that I do, but, yeah, I'll watch and see what happens."
HOW CHALLENGING IS THE TRACK WITH THE COT? "The car of tomorrow doesn't seem to be a huge change here, it seems to drive a lot like the old cars so I'm pretty excited about it. This is my favorite race track. I love being here. Once I got a few laps in practice I was really comfortable and I was really happy to see the car of tomorrow didn't change very much."
WILL IT BE THE SAME KIND OF RACE? "I think the race is gonna be the same Darlington race. I can't tell any difference. Really, the car feels more like the cars we used to drive here than it did at Richmond or Phoenix or Martinsville."
WHAT MAKES THIS TRACK YOUR FAVORITE? "The thing about this track that makes it so great is a couple of things. The driver can make a huge difference here in a number of ways. You can change your line. You can make a difference in how fast you're going and you can change how hard you go at the beginning of a run and save tires. You've got all these different things happening and if you do everything just right, 10 or 15 laps into the run you can be really fast, but it's a track where the driver can make adjustments with the steering wheel and the pedals to make the car do different things."
WHAT KIND OF PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR MOTHER'S DAY? "Jason Myers, the car chief on my team, let me ride his Harley down here and my mom and I are gonna ride it back to Charlotte on Sunday morning. We're just gonna do some stuff during the day -- whatever she wants to do. I usually have her running around the country coming and doing what I want to do, but it will be cool to do what she wants to do."
WHY DO DRIVERS TALK SO GLOWINGLY ABOUT THIS TRACK? "This race track is not just a race track, it's one of the few tracks that we go to where I really feel like the driver makes the biggest difference. You can go down into the corner and you can drive a certain way and really haul the mail. All of the drivers know that, so when you run really well here, it feels really good because you know that you're doing something."
ARE PEOPLE CURIOUS ABOUT THE COT HERE? "To me, I think the car is remarkably similar to the old car. I expected it to be a huge difference and it feels pretty much the same."
DOES IT AMUSE YOU WHEN YOU SEE THE PEOPLE AT THE 8 HAULER? "It's not amusing, it's very interesting. It's an amazing thing. He's Dale Earnhardt's son. He's the most popular guy in the sport. He's a great race car driver and a great guy, and I think it's normal to be interested in what's going on there. We're all watching just like everybody else, but I work on the 99 Office Depot Fusion."
