BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We weren't right when we unloaded. It seemed like everywhere else we've been this year except Daytona we were good off the truck. We've been chasing the car the whole time. The crew made some good calls on the car. We changed four shocks, springs, a bunch of stuff and it picked us up a lot. I'm happy with that. I just wish we had been faster."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We picked up from practice and the car feels pretty good. I felt like we had a top 10 qualifier. This is the same car we won with at Las Vegas. It was a pretty good lap for us. We'll just have to get ready for the race and try to keep that top 10 streak alive."
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We picked up over three and a half tenths from our practice time. We changed 10 little things. I think it was good, positive changes that we made. It was about as much as we changed last week from Happy Hour to race time. I was still a little bit too tight, but it's a whole new day tomorrow. Every time I win a race at Darlington I never bring the same car back. I think we're trying to get a fleet of 'em. The best car that we've ever built was the Atlanta car. We ran it in the fall. We ran it last week. It was going to be the 23 car this week, so we took that car from them and gave them the one we won Darlington with last year. We qualified a lot better than we practiced, and that's a real tribute to the changes the team made on the car. We'll put the race setup on it tomorrow and see what we've got."
SHAWNA ROBINSON (No. 49 BAM Racing Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"That's what you're supposed to do at Darlington isn't it? I got into three and I'm turning it and I feel like it was going to smack the wall. It would catch and I didn't, but it didn't catch this time. We're learning. This is a team test. We're here to learn and we're going to learn a lot. We're in the race, so we're fine. I wasn't supposed to even be here, so I'm excited that we came and we're getting the laps we're getting. I'm going to get 400 miles or race experience and when we come back here in the fall we'll be a lot better. From my 15th race on, we should start picking up."
HUT STRICKLIN (No. 23 Hills Bros Coffee Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"It just got way too tight. The car wouldn't turn. It just kept going straight at both ends. We've got to go back and look at what we changed and hopefully change something back the right way."
JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Intrepid R/T)
"We keep making improvements. This is one of my favorite race tracks. We brought a brand new car here and these guys worked hard. We picked up over two tenths. We just keep gaining on it. That's where we want to be. We keep gaining on it every week. I love this track. I'm not the best qualifier here, but I feel like we'll race real good."
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"It was a really good lap. We picked it up four tenths from practice, so yeah, it was a good lap. We struggled to get to the bottom of the track all day, but the guys did a good job with the car. We ran a better lap in qualifying than we had all day."
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Intrepid R/T)
"That was a pretty good lap. The car feels good, and we've got a good starting spot. It's not the pole, but we're going to be OK. I think we'll race good."
JIMMY SPENCER (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"I really got through three and four good, and I thought that was my problem spot. I messed up in one and two. We've been qualifying well, but you're never really happy unless you're on the pole. I was careful not to drag too much brake in the corner, and I didn't. I wowed it down a little too much, and it hurt me a little bit. At this track, if you're not into the throttle real quick you don't get the lap you need. You only get one lap here. They may say you get two, but you only get one. The tires give up because the track is so abrasive. That's another top 10 qualifying spot for us. We're pretty excited about that. I like this track. You've got to be really patient. You've got to race the track. You can't race the other competitors. We ran well here last year. I had a top five finish and we were headed for another top five and I got in an accident at the end. I feel like this will be another opportunity for us to have a good day. We think we're going to get better every time we race together. We feel good about everything we're doing. The consistency is going to be here shortly. We've got the qualifying down. Now we need to get some consistent top 10 finishes. Then we can put this thing in the winner's circle."
