CLINT BOWYER, NO. 33 THE HARTFORD CHEVROLET, met with members of the media at Darlington Raceway and discussed racing at Darlington, season to-date and other topics.
TALK ABOUT YOUR SPONSOR FOR THIS WEEKEND: "The Hartford is on board for Darlington. They are celebrating their 200th birthday, so pretty cool to have them on board. We are excited about it. Just excited to be here at Darlington. You know, we had a good car here last year and failed to get a good finish, got caught up in a wreck. But, we were here at the tire test and learned a lot and I think we can be really good."
WITH THE HALL OF FAME OPENING NEXT WEEK, WHERE DO YOU SEE THE SPORT GOING IN THE FUTURE AND YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT DALE SR. "On the Hall of Fame, I am very excited. I think it is very important for a sport with as much history as NASCAR has had behind it to have a Hall of Fame like that. I mean to tell you, they have done an awesome job. I think people are going to be blown away by it. It is going to be something our fans and everybody involved with NASCAR is going to be very proud of for many years to go.
"Earnhardt, Sr...that was one person that I always to meet when I came to RCR and I never got a chance to. But, to hear all the stories, everything that they accomplished at RCR over the years, trust me, he is very much talked about still today at RCR and everybody is very proud of what they accomplished back then."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE AGGRESSIVENESS IT TAKES HERE AT DARLINGTON? "It is such unique track from anything we are ever on. We only get the chance to come here once. You have to get up on the wheel. This isn't a track where you can get here and you hear people say race the track, so that means get comfortable and ride around and watch everybody wreck. You have to get up on the wheel and get out of your comfort zone big time to run a lap here and that can bite you in a hurry. You have to respect the place. You have got to be able to get up on the wheel but you have to be careful doing it to."
TALK ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE FAN VOTE FOR THE ALL STAR AND IF YOU ARE CAMPAIGNING: "You know, not really. If you are lucky enough and your fans vote you in, that is awesome. I want to be able to earn my way in. I want to be in it because I was supposed to be in it. I think the fan vote is a great thing. It is a great tool to get the fans involved; we have very very loyal fans. Hopefully we can get ourselves in the race and if we can't, hopefully our fans will. That is all you can do. To campaign and ask them to do it, I think that is getting a little bit out there. I think that you have your fan base, to be able to campaign for everyone else's fan base to vote you in is a little bit pushing it."
WHERE DO YOU FEEL YOUR TEAM IS RIGHT NOW? "I think we are fine. We have had some bad luck man. We blew up in like 50 laps at Bristol. We were running well. That is one of my best tracks. We looked to get a good finish there. I was running second, had a flat and went two laps down at Texas, got back on the lead lap from two laps down the very lap everybody wrecked and wiped us out with them. Looking at Atlanta, I was running fifth, with a lap and a half to go, there was that incident with Carl (Edwards) and everybody, I think we ended up 27th out of that deal because again, we got caught up in a wreck on a restart. There are some things you can pinpoint right there, you are looking at 200-300 points, you know? That's it. That is why we are behind. Other than that, we have been running solidly in the top-10, we've just had harder knocks that we have had to overcome. I feel like our cars are running well and that is what doesn't have me concerned about where we are at right now. I'm on the bubble, but I'm not worried about that right now. Our cars are running well. We have to be able to log laps and continue to improve and log good finishes and we'll be fine."
