MIAMI (August 2, 2000) – Wally Dallenbach will have “big game” on his mind when he returns to Homestead-Miami Speedway. The NASCAR Winston Cup driver, who is an avid hunter in his spare time, will be looking to bag the first place trophy in the November 12 Pennzoil 400.
“I’m really looking forward to the Pennzoil 400,” said Dallenbach, the driver of the Galaxy Motorsports No. 75 RotoZip Ford. “We ran real well there last year. It’s a fun racetrack, a flat, wide racetrack, the kind of track I enjoy racing on.”
After qualifying 24th, Dallenbach worked his way up to a ninth place finish in the inaugural Pennzoil 400, finishing between hunting partner Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon.
“I was impressed with the facility,” Dallenbach said. “We had a good time last year. We stayed at the track in our motorcoach, and the crowd and atmosphere was great. The facility is fantastic. These are the kind of tracks NASCAR and the Winston Cup Series want to be at. We’re happy it’s on our schedule.”
Dallenbach knows the value of scouting before a hunting trip, and his South Florida excursion is no exception.
“More than likely, we’re going to go back to Homestead-Miami Speedway and test,” he explained.
A two-time SCCA Trans-Am champion and four-time winner of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Dallenbach began racing in the Winston Cup Series in 1992 for his road racing car owner, Jack Roush. He has 21 career top-10 finishes, including a pair of seconds.
Dallenbach and his NASCAR Winston Cup rivals will battle in Lennox Pole Day, Friday, Nov. 10, when the Budweiser Pole and top 25 positions are set for the Pennzoil 400. Saturday is final Winston Cup qualifying and the running of the Miami 300, the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series finale.
Tickets are still on sale for the Pennzoil 400 and Miami 300. Call the ticket office at (305) 230-RACE, or purchase tickets online at the official Speedway web site, www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com.
