Dale Jr. and several others encounter tech issues prior to 500

Roughly 17 cars failed tech the first time around on race morning leading up to the Daytona 500.

Technical inspection headaches plagued several race teams Sunday morning, including race favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Issues differed among the cars. For example, while the track of the rear deck lid was the problem for the Wood Brothers, the No. 88's issues involved the nose of the car. After going through tech the first time, the Chevrolet was nearly a quarter of an inch off on NASCAR's nose clip.

On the second go-through, they were still off by 3/16th, according to a crew member. On the third attempt, the car passed and was pushed out to the grid. Kevin Harvick's No. 4 and Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 also went through three times.

All cars eventually cleared tech and no penalties were assessed.

Along with the cars mentioned above, here are other teams Motorsport.com knows failed at least once: Joey Logano, Trevor Bayne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Paul Menard, Ryan Newman, Michael McDowell, A.J. Allmendinger, Denny Hamlin, Danica Patrick, Martin Truex Jr., Brian Vickers, Kyle Larson, Regan Smith.
