DALE JARRETT SCHEDULED FOR DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL; PLANNING TO RACE AT ROCKINGHAM

DEARBORN, Mich., October 28, 1998 -- The following is the text of a statement released today by John C. Lincoln Hospital - North Mountain, Phoenix, regarding Dale Jarrett's condition:

Dr. James Magary evaluated Dale Jarrett's gallstone condition this morning and determined that Jarrett may be discharged tomorrow, October 29, from John C. Lincoln Hospital - North Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, following a final day of rest.

Magary determined that surgery to remove Jarrett's gall bladder will be delayed until after the season-ending NASCAR Winston Cup event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, November 8, although Jarrett's condition will be closely monitored for the next two weeks.

Jarrett will attempt to drive the #88 Quality Care Service/Ford Credit Taurus in the AC Delco 400 at North Carolina Motor Speedway this weekend, with Hut Stricklin standing by as a relief driver.

"I can't say enough about the care that I've received from Dr. Magary and the people at John C. Lincoln Hospital," said Jarrett. "I'm feeling a little bit better every day, and Kelley and I can't wait to get back home and see our children. I need to thank all of the fans and friends who have showed so much care and concern for both Kelley and me these last few days.

"I've talked with Robert Yates, and I think he's saved my seat for me, so I'm looking forward to getting with Todd and the guys and having a good run at Rockingham."
